Historic Preservation Committee Board
April 07, 2025, Minutes
Staff Present: Andrea Lauer, Business Services Manager; Kimberly McNally, Historical
Records Archivist; Luis Perez, Recreation Supervisor
Board Present: Carla Elliott, Comer Patterson, Sherry Frisk, Gerald Burgner, Lisa
Mouton, Tre Watson, Tom Turbiville
Council Members Present: None
1. Call meeting to order and consider absence requests.
The meeting was called to order at 4:03 p.m., upon a motion made by Lisa
Mouton and a second by Sherry Frisk the motion to approve Karen Story’s
excused absence was unanimously approved. Lou Hodges was an unexcused
absence.
2. Hear visitors. None
3. Agenda Items
3.1 Presentation, discussion, and the possible approval of minutes from
the previous meeting.
Upon a motion made by Comer Patterson and seconded by Sherry Frisk,
the minutes were approved as written.
3.2 Presentation, discussion regarding board members’ feedback to staff for
Inclusion in the 2025 Comprehensive Plan 5-year Evaluation & Appraisal
Report.
Christine Leal, Long Range Planning Administrator; Planning and Development
went over a brief description of the Comprehensive plan and asked the members
to take the survey so staff could get input. Members discussed some of their
concerns for the future such as student housing, historic houses being torn down,
traffic, ag shacks, neighborhood integrity.
3.3 Presentation, discussion and possible action regarding historical content
on Mable Clare Thomas.
As part of the 2022 voter-approved bond project to enhance Mable Clare
Thomas Park property, City staff and the design team are working to create
unique elements that highlight Mrs. Thomas’s contributions and help tell her
story. Tom Turbiville was able to speak to Judy, her granddaughter, and loaned a
book written by Mrs. Thomas, other members also did research and turned that
in for staff to review.

A. Cemetery
Sherry Frisk is still waiting to hear about the markers for Shiloh & Salem, she
will let staff know when payment is due.
B. Historical Marker Program/Project HOLD Report
No historical marker applications were received. Kimmie will get with the Dixie
Chicken on when/where they would like their marker to be presented.
Kimmie’s last day will be in June, she is moving out of the State. She has
updated the list of Historic Markers in Project Hold.
C. Exploring History Lunch Series
All dates have been booked, if anyone has ideas for 2026, please get with
Carla Elliott.
D. Americas 250 Banners
Lisa Mouton will do research and get back to the committee.
E. College Station Pictorial Book Updates

Book is in production and the anticipated launch date is May 19.
F. American Mile
Tom Turbiville passed out suggestions for the years 1955-2024, he also
assigned years to the members to do research and bring back their
suggestions of events that could go on the bricks.
G. Lone Star Legacy Park Designation

Proclamation honoring Brison Park will be at the April 24 Council meeting at
6 p.m.
3.3 Report by the Liaison of Parks and Recreation on matters pertaining
to the Historic Preservation Board.
None
3.4 Identification of upcoming local or area historical programs.
None
4. Discussion and possible action of future agenda items.
Changes to the current Historical Marker application.
5. Presentation of historical items
None
6. Adjourn.
Upon a motion made by Tre Watson and a second by Comer Patterson, the HPC
voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting @ 5:23 p.m
