HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/03/2025 - Regular Minutes - Historic Preservation Committee Historic Preservation Committee Board College Station, TX Page 2 March 03, 2025, Minutes Staff Present: Andrea Lauer, Business Services Manager; Kimberly McNally, Historical Records Archivist; Luis Perez, Recreation Supervisor Board Present: Carla Elliott, Comer Patterson, Sherry Frisk, Gerald Burgner, Lisa Mouton, Tre Watson, Karen Story, Tom Turbiville Council Members Present: 1. Call meeting to order and consider absence requests. Meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m., Lou Hodges was an unexcused absence. 2. Hear visitors. None 3. Agenda Items 3.1 Presentation, discussion, and the possible approval of minutes from the previous meeting Upon a motion made by Comer Patterson and seconded by Tre Watson the minutes were approved as written. 3.2 A. Cemetery Kelsey Heiden, Director of Parks and Recreation, approved the Shiloh and Salem sections of the College Station Cemetery to each have a Historic Texas Cemetery marker; Sherry Frisk will get with the department regarding payment. B. Historical Marker Program/Project HOLD Report Upon a motion made by Comer Patterson and a second by Sherry Frisk, the motion to approve the Dixie Chicken Subject Marker was unanimously approved. Parks will get quotes for a Subject Marker with Dixie Chicken engraved on it. Upon a motion by Sherry Frisk and a second by Tre Watson the Board approved a motion to have three categories on the Historic Marker Application 1. Historic Designation 2. Historic Building 3. Historic Home, the motion passed unanimously. Kimmie has been digitizing VHS tapes and CDs to Project Hold. C. Exploring History Lunch Series Carla Elliot has finalized 2025 speakers; she is looking for volunteers to take over 2026. Historic Preservation Committee Board College Station, TX Page 2 D. Americas 250 Banners Local Veterans could be honored with vinyl banners hung from light poles, which family would pay for expenses. The banners would be hung during Americas 250. Upon a motion from Comer Patterson and a second by Sherry Frisk the Board would like Lisa Mouton to pursue pricing for the banners and report back at a future meeting. E. College Station Pictorial Book Updates No update on the book currently. F. American Mile Tom Turbiville passed out suggestions for the years 1955-2024, he also assigned years to the members to do research and bring back there suggestions of events that could go on the bricks. G. Lone Star Legacy Park designation The application was approved by TRAPS and the award was presented at the Annual Conference in Allen Texas at the end of February. The award is in the display cabinet at City Hall, and Parks is working to get the recognition on a future council meeting. 3.3 Report by the Liaison of Parks and Recreation on matters pertaining to the Historic Preservation Board. None 3.4 Identification of upcoming local or area historical programs. None 4. Discussion and possible action of future agenda items. Changes to the current Historical Marker application. 5. Presentation of historical items A couple of items were passed around. 6. Adjourn. Upon a motion made by Karen Story and a second by Tre Watson, the HPC voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting @ 5:19 p.m. Historic Preservation Committee Board College Station, TX Page 2
