HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/28/1958 - Regular Minutes - City Councile W V) W OL Cb ZE D x 0 0 co MINUTES OF REGULAR XMETING April. 28, 1958 Members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Anderson, B oyett, Landiss, McCall, Orr, Sorrels; City Manager Eoswell; City Attoreny Dillon; City Secretary McGinnis. Visitors present: Charles LaMotte, C. A. Bonnen, Dr. Carlton Lee, Robert Toland, and C. H.,Ransdell. Dr. Lee reviewed for the council the by-laws of the Brazos County Youth Development Counseling Service and presented the report of -the nominating committee for membership on its board of directors. On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Orr, the by-laws and board of directors were approved as presented by Dr. Lee. Councilman Orr was elected mayor pro -tem by acclamation. On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the City Zoning Commission and the City Planning Commission were combined into a single unit to be called the City Planning and Zoning Commission. On motion by Councilman Ariderson, seconded by Councilman Orr, the council approved the appointment of the several committees for the biennium ending April 5, 1960. On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Landiss, City Manager Boswell was authorized to employ Mr. Nelson D. Durst to audit the city records for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1958. On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman McCall, Ordinance No. 263, an ordinance making adjustment in utility rates, etc.., was passed and approved and ordered published. On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the city manager was authorized to accept the low bid of $6,180.00 by Westinghouse Electric Company for various war4house supplies. On motion by Councilman 'Landiss, seconded by Councilman McCall, the city manager was authorized to accept the low bid of $1,116.28 by General Electric Company for materials and street lights along highway 6. On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the city manager was authorized to accept the low bid of $1,838.22 by International Paper Co. for various light poles and miscellaneous lumber. ®06►35.. v2/T Minutes of City Council Continued: Page 2 April 28, 1958 On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Boyett, the city manager was authorized to permit the closing of Lodge Street in the vicinity of the First Baptist Church during the construction contemplated by the church, with the provision that if the street must be closed for a period longer than 1.20 days from May 1, 1958 request for an extension must be presented to the council. On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the city manager and one other member of the council were authorized 'to attend the annual meeting• of the International Municipal Finance Officers Association in Milwaukee, Wisconsin June 8 - 120 1958, and to be reimbursed for actual expenses occurred in making the trip. The council set 6:30 p.m., May 12 as the hour for a meeting for study of the proposed budget for the fiscal year July 1, 1958 - June 30, 1959. The council adjourned subject to the call of the mayor.
