Visitors present: E. R. Alexander, C. Clifford Martin, Jr., Howard V. Harwell, Milton E. Goldman, G. L. Beckner, B. 'VV. Bohuslav, C. P. Jackson, Frank T. Still, Charles W. Kugler, R. C. Robertson, J. B. Glover, A. L. Leon, R. E. McKay, Jack Fletcher, Delfino F. Garcia, R. S. Rodriquez, G. B. Fernandez, P. B. Goode, J. B. Hervey, D. F. Weeks, C. G. Haas, Charles Lalllotte, Ron Logan, J. W. Gartrell, J. H. Voss, and Don Dale. The request submitted by Mr. E. R. Alexander for the closing of a street in College Hills Woodlands was referred to the Planning Commission for study and recommendation. On motion by Councilman Pugh, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, the city manager was authorized to proceed with the grading and graveling of Old County Road from FM 2154 to Winding Road and Lincoln Avenue from Highway 6 to University Drive at an approximate cost of $3,070.50. The preliminary estimate of cost on work done by Spencer J. Buchanan and Associates, their Invoice No. 1, was tabled until the next meeting. The city manager was directed to arrange for a representative of the firm to meet with the council on November 25, 1957, at which time Invoice No. 1 as well as other work contemplated may be discussed in detail. The city manager was directed to secure additional quotations on road grading equipment for the next meeting. Councilmen Anderson and Orr were designated by the mayor to work with the city manager in securing these quotations. The bids of the Bryan Motor Company and Corbusier Chevrolet Company submitted on a 21 ton pickup truck were rejected and the city manager authorized to secure additional quotations by the next meeting of the council. The request of Mr. Eugene Rush that the city accept ownership of a shelter at the North Gate was denied. On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Boyett, Councilman Anderson voting no, the city agreed to participate in paying for the area planning cost to the amount of approximately $13,020, same to be paid over a period of two years. Minutes of City Council Continued: 2 October 28, 1957 The question of the removal of trees from city streets as ordered by the council at its meeting on September 23 was discussed at length. The city manager was directed to postpone work on removal of such trees until November 25 so that the question of taking out liability insurance might be studied by property owners concerned. The question of repairing streets throughout the city was discussed at considerable length. On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Orr, the city manager was requested to arrange for Mr. Ernest Brown of Moroney-Beissner & Company to meet with the council November 25 when the problem of financing such a program might be gone into more completely.
