HomeMy WebLinkAboutLife on the F&B Station 010804Betty jo hale hohn born in 1927. i lived in the same house on campus at the f&b station from the day i was born until i married charles m. hohn in 1948 my parents were fred hale and sena mae mounts hale. fred hale was a chairman of the swine section, department of animal science and received the distinguished alumni award in 1975 for his discovery of the role of vitamin A in eyesight. he was the first to prove that birth defects could be other than genetic in origin, and he initiated establishment of the first biochemical laboratory at Texas A&M life on the f&b station it was a very rich and rearding experience to grow up at the f b. this experiment station included the swine, poultry, dairy, and horticulture sections and the residential areas for the chairman of each section. The hales house and the Sherwoods house were next door to each other at the corner of fb road to each other at the corner of fb road and the agronomy road. each house was surrounded by nearly 3 acres of partially wooded land- mostly post oak and yaupon. at our house there was a room for a badminton court, archery range swing sets sand pile and a shetland pony named checkers. my mother was quite a gardener 1930s sid yarnell family bill jim dick pete Yarnell Dick Yarnell Betty Jo Hale at Horticulture Farm on F&B.
