Dear Pastor and Building Committee,
The College Station Historic Preservation Committee would like to express its' concern
over the possible demolition of your historic building in Northgate — the old Church of
Christ building located on College Main. For decades, this structure has stood as a
focal point and landmark in the Northgate area. It is one of the oldest buildings in the
city and was designed by Earnest Langford, a prominent founding father of College
Station. This building stands as a reminder to all who see it, that the church served as a
cornerstone of this community. We encourage you to save this structure and not allow
it to become only a memory to a few.
We all understand and support the fact that this building is yours to do with as you wish,
however, we sincerely hope that during your deliberations, you will consider the
renovation of this stately building as a viable option. A lot of history has been destroyed
in the Northgate area, with many landmarks razed to make way for modern
conveniences or for personal gain. That is why we are actively soliciting your help in
saving this building that is part of the history of College Station.
If parking is an issue for your church, the problem should be alleviated once the new
City parking garage has been built. A few well - selected tenants such as professional
offices or gallery space, would be alternative uses that could bring income into the
church coffers. The College Station Historic Preservation Committee highly supports
your saving the church for alternative uses and appreciates your consideration in the
preservation of our history.
Sincerely,
College Station Historic Preservation Committee
