A Fulbright scholar, Dr. Boyle continues to work as an independent researcher focusing on socioeconomic developments in New Mexico during the 19th century and the social history of Ste. Genevieve, a French community on the Mississippi River south of St. Louis. As a National Park Service employee she has worked on a variety of projects including - heritage tourism, cultural landscapes and interpretive plans. II Brian Bray serves as the city of Nacogdoches historic sites manager, historic preservation officer. Mr. Bray manages the restoration of all city owned historic properties, as well as plans, directs and reviews all activities and operations of the city owned historic sites, working with non -profit advisory boards and appointed museum board members. - He is responsible for implementation of the city's preservation ordinance and for coordinating the city's preservation in activities with those of state and federal agencies and with local, state and national nonprofit preservation organizations. He received a bachelor's degree in public history from Texas Lutheran University and a master's degree in library and information science from the University of North Texas. • Maureen "Mo" Brown is an archeologist and collections manager for the Texas Historical Commission's (THC) in Archeology Division. Her fieldwork and research interests have included terrestrial and underwater projects focusing on colonial sites in south Texas and the Caribbean. Brown worked in Victoria on the THC's Fort St. Louis Archeological Project and was the founding director of the Museum of the Coastal Bend at Victoria College, now • the repository for those collections, from 2000 - 2003. She earned her master's degree in anthropology from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and has been a professional archeologist for 20 years. Sharon A. Brown has worked for the National Park Service for more than 30 years as an interpreter, historian, park II planner, cultural resource manager and currently as the trails administrator and planner with the National Trails • System- Intermountain Region office in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She received her doctorate in American Studies from - St. Louis University. Jill Campbell is the regional coordinator of the Texas Lakes Trail Region, which covers 31 counties in North Central Texas. As coordinator, she promotes these counties as heritage tourism destinations by working with local chambers ▪ of commerce, convention and visitors bureaus, cities and attractions. Jill graduated summa cum laude with a • bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Texas at Arlington. II Kathy Carter is the facility director of the Fayette Public Library, Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives in the city of La Grange, Texas. She has worked at the museum since 1982 and during these years the library, museum and al archives have garnered statewide recognition for their programming and exhibits. Carter served as chairwoman of the Fayette County Historical Commission for 20 years and currently chairs the commission's cemetery committee. • Terry Colley is the deputy executive director of the Texas Historical Commission and serves as the deputy state historic preservation officer. In his 18 years of involvement with Main Street he has been the Texas Main Street - Program state coordinator and was Main Street manager in three cities in Texas and Oklahoma. Colley is a native of • Austin and holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Southwest Texas State University. He earned his master's and doctoral degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Rebeka Cook is the heritage programs manager with the Grapevine Convention and Visitor's Bureau. She is a • graduate of Concordia University in Austin and completed her master's degree and some work towards a doctorate at • Saint Louis University. Her focus has been in biology, education and working with community groups. 411 11 • • • BIOGRAPHIES • • Nancy Deviney has been active in South Texas tourism since 1988 and currently serves as secretary of the Board of • Directors of the Texas Tropical Trail Regional heritage tourism program. Deviney also serves as secretary- treasurer • of the Texas Coastal Bend Regional Tourism Council (TCBRTC) representing 17 counties in South Texas. Deviney - served as chairwoman of the 2nd annual TCBRTC Coastal Bend Travel Fair held in Fulton. She was executive director of the Freer Chamber of Commerce for 15 years and also wrote a monthly feature article for the South Texas • Traveler magazine for many years. - Joe Ettle joined the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History as collection manager in June 2006. He graduated from the University of Texas in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in archaeology. He earned his master's degree • in museum studies from Baylor University in 2006. • • Michael "Buddy" Garza is site manager of Fort McKavett State Historic Site, one of 20 historic properties • throughout Texas operated by the Texas Historical Commission. Garza previously worked for Texas Parks and • Wildlife as a park ranger for Fort McKavett, where he performed historic restorations to many of the fort structures constructed in the mid 1880s. Garza became site manager in 1995 where he is responsible for the daily operations • and preservation of Fort McKavett. Garza is involved in many civic organizations including the Fort McKavett Volunteer Fire Department and Menard County Historical Commission. He received a bachelor's degree in animal - science and biology from Angelo State University. • Guy R. Giersch has served as a historic preservation officer for the city of McKinney since April 2001. Giersch helps • manage the city's commercial and residential historic districts. He is actively involved in coordinating projects with • Main Street and local property owners. Giersch received degrees in biology and dance from the University of New • Mexico. He earned a master's degree in architecture with a focus on historic preservation from Texas Tech University. . Hal Ham is director of the John E. Conner Museum in Kingsville. He has been with the museum for 26 years and • currently serves on the advisory board for the Kingsville Convention and Visitors Center. Ham attended the - Williamsburg Museum Administrator's program, was vice president and treasurer of the Museum Association of • South Texas and has spoken at several conferences of the Texas Association of Museums. Ham is the author of the book Wildflowers of South Texas. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A &I University, now Texas • A &M University- Kingsville. • • Doug Harman is president of the Lakes Trail Region board and a member of the Tarrant County Historical - Commission. Previously he served as president and CEO of the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau and city manager of Fort Worth. He is a consultant and speaks at numerous professional meetings and conferences on • topics relating to Fort Worth and Texas history, heritage tourism and preservation. He is the author of more than • 60 published articles appearing in professional journals and the artist of numerous cartoons about tourism and local - government. Harman was recently awarded the Legacy Award from the Texas Association of Convention and Visitors • Bureaus and the Cowtown Legend Award from Texas Christian University. He received his bachelor's degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University and his master's and doctorate degrees from American University. • • Margaret Hoogstra is the regional coordinator of the Texas Forts Trail, part of the Texas Heritage Trials Program of • the Texas Historical Commission. Lawerence Oaks is the executive director of the Texas Historical Commission and is responsible for all phases of operation of the commission. He • previously served as executive director of the Alabama Historical Commission, where he supervised the restoration • of the Alabama State Capitol and developed the first statewide Ethnic Heritage Council in the nation. In 2002, his organization, the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, purchased the historic Knights of Pythias Hall listed on the • National Register of Historic Places and a contributing structure to Cuero's downtown commercial historic district. • Oliver has served as board chair since the inception of the museum project. From 2002 -2007, the organization • raised approximately $2 million for restoration and development purposes. • Jennifer Price is site manager of the Caddoan Mounds State Historic Site, one of 20 historic properties throughout • Texas operated by the Texas Historical Commission. As site manager, Price's goal is to protect and maintain • cultural and natural resources, while providing a diverse experience for visitors. She promotes park events and • activities through public outreach utilizing newspapers, radio stations, flyers and by maintaining visitor email logs. Price previously served as a member of the student chapter of both the National Association for Interpreters and • the Society of American Foresters. Price earned both a bachelor's degree in environmental science and is currently • completing a master's degree in forestry, with a concentration on recreation economics, both from Stephen F. Austin • State University. • Jennifer Rogers is education director at the Texas Maritime Museum in Rockport. He is a former executive director of • the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and executive director of the Texas Nature Conservancy. For his commitment to the management and protection of natural resources, Sansom is a recipient of the Chevron • Conservation Award, the Chuck Yeager Award from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Pugsley Medal • from the National Park Foundation, the Seton Award from the International Association of Fish and Wildlife • Agencies and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Nature Conservancy. He is a graduate of Austin College and Texas Tech University. • Katherine Seale is the director of Preservation Dallas, the city's nonprofit organization dedicated to historic • preservation in Dallas. She was hired in 2001 to conduct a city-wide survey of architecturally and historically • significant buildings using the help of volunteers. Seale organized more than 500 volunteers to gather the survey • data, and managed five professional committees to oversee the collection. She is a member of the local designation • committee, which writes and reviews preservation criteria for landmark properties and facilitates the designation process with property owners. Previously, he • was the executive director for the Central Texas Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) and during his • three - and -a -half year tenure, the chapter experienced a 150 percent net revenue growth.
