Agenda Item #1: Call to Order
Meeting was called to order by Susan Irza, at 4:05 p.m.
Agenda Item #2-3: Hear Visitors: N/A
Agenda Item #4: Possible action and discussion on absence requests. N/A
Agenda Item #5: Possible action and discussion to approve meeting minutes of regular meeting of
May 2, 2011. Minutes were approved. (EW/lv)
Agenda Item #6: Report from HPC Chairperson. Susan thanked the committee members for an
outstanding job during the Exploring History Luncheon at Veterans Park. James and Ernie were
commended for their burger grilling expertise. Other members were commended as part of the
cleaning crew.
Agenda Item #7: Report from Heritage Programs Coordinator. See attached Heritage
Programs Progress Report and Google Analytical Report.
Agenda Item #8: Possible action and discussion on Preservation Excellence Awards. This item
was tabled until the July meeting.
Agenda Item #9: Report on 75th Anniversary plans. See attached 75th Anniversary Meeting Notes.
Agenda Item #10: Committee Reports:
• Hot Rocks Cook Off/Native American Interpretive Path – Ernie Wright, Lou Hodges,
Anne is working with Dr. Thoms to find funding for the six tribal representatives from
the Tap-Pilam Coahuiltecan tribe from south of San Antonio. The Department of the
Army is funding 28 tribal representatives ($28,000) from federally recognized tribes.
• Historic Marker Program – Meredith Waller
No report at this time.
• Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series – Susan Irza, Anne Boykin, Marci Rodgers
The June program will feature The Infomaniacs from WTAW. Susan and Anne are
working on a list of selections for the next season.
• Sponsorship Liaison & Exploring History Hosts – James McGinnis, Hillary Jessup
There is still no sponsor for the July lecture. Abuelo’s has declined. No word from Danny
Stribling at Experanza.
• Oral History Transcription Project – Lou Hodges
Lou continues to work on this tedious project as time allows. Haley Joines, Heritage
Programs intern, is working on the 13 oral history binders verifying that every page is
scanned. This has turned into a mammoth project. She is finding many discrepancies
which she will correct.
• Landmark Commission (Liaison) – Susan Irza
Nothing new to report.
• 75th Anniversary Planning Committee – Linda Harvell (chair), Patricia Cleere, Jerry
Cooper, Susan Irza; Linda Harvell reported that the 75th Anniversary Planning Committee will
continue to meet through the summer. The committee is continuing to work on the book signing,
vintage softball game, tailgate vendors, and gala events. Linda also reported on attending the
Tourism Forum sponsored by the BCS CVB. Jack Fugate will be the newsletter chair and will be
putting together news from the A&M CHS classes to include in it.
• College Station Timeline & College Station History Book Advisor – Jerry Cooper;
Jerry has almost completed the listing of mayors, council members and election tallies.
There are a few missing bits of information that the city secretary’s office is trying to
locate for him.
• College Station Oral History Interviews & Educational Initiatives – Libby Vastano,
Susan Irza; Libby and Anne have been unsuccessful in trying to contact Mrs. Knowles
for an interview. We will also begin to reschedule the mayor and council member
interviews to be held in Public Communications.
• “Military History on Tap in Brazos Valley” Guidebook – Anne Boykin, James
McGinnis, Vicky Eastes (HP Volunteer); Vicky continues to work on editing and adding
to the list compiled by Anne.
• Heritage Programs Acquisitions – Tina Hanna (HP Volunteer); Tina has completed
scanning the city and university documents of Mayor Andy Anderson. Tina also
contributed $600 toward the purchase of a new Fujitsu scanner for the Heritage
programs office!
