MINUTES Historic Preservation Committee Monday, May 2, 2010 College Station Conference Center 1300 George Bush Drive, Room 103 College Station, Texas 77840 4:00 pm Attendance: Susan

Programs Coordinator Visitors: N/A Agenda Item #1: Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Susan Irza, at 4:05 p.m. Agenda Item #2-3: Hear Visitors: N/A Agenda Item #4: Possible
action and discussion on absence requests. N/A Agenda Item #5: Possible action and discussion to approve meeting minutes of regular meeting of April 4, 2011. Minutes were approved. (LBH/jm)
Agenda Item #6: Report from HPC Chairperson. Susan reported that the Friends of the BCS Library will be hosting Duffy Hudson again on Sunday, September 18 at 2:00p.m. This time, Mr.
Hudson will be portraying Albert Einstein. Agenda Item #7: Report from Heritage Programs Coordinator. See attached Heritage Programs Progress Report and Google Analytical Report. Anne
reported that Bill Harper will be donating to Project HOLD the interview tapes that he made with Bob Wiatt. Anne stated that this is, not only, a significant contribution but an exclusive
one. Agenda Item #8: Possible action and discussion on Preservation Excellence Awards. Anne presented a very rough draft to the members. They will discuss the design further at the June
meeting. Linda said she would check on pricing and materials through some of the vendors she
uses for her business. Linda also offered to get price quotes for new historic home and building markers. Agenda Item #9: Report on 75th Anniversary plans. See attached 75th Anniversary
Meeting Notes. Agenda Item #10: Committee Reports: Hot Rocks Cook Off/Native American Interpretive Path Ernie Wright, Lou Hodges, Morgan Hester (HP Intern); A meeting will be scheduled
for the month of May. Historic Marker Program Meredith Waller, Alison Clary (HP Intern) Pat Cleere mentioned a 1940s era house on Ashburn that should be considered for a marker.
Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series Susan Irza, Anne Boykin, Marci Rodgers The May lecture is at Veterans Park with Lt. Gen Randy House speaking on Veterans Park Memorial and
Lynn Stuart Pathway. Tours of the park will be included. It was suggested that we have a table reserved for late comers and another for the speakers and their guests. Susan and Anne
will be working on the 2012-2013 list of programs and sponsors. Pat suggested Anne Preston as a a speaker on James Baker. Pat also suggested her cousin present a program on the moon
rock heist. Sponsorship Liaison & Exploring History Hosts James McGinnis, Hillary Jessup Meredith has been unable to get a sponsor for the July lecture. Anne will get more invitation
letters printed for Meredith. She will approach Danny Stribling from Esperanza. Oral History Transcription Project Lou Hodges Lou continues to work on this tedious project as time
allows. Landmark Commission (Liaison) Susan Irza Nothing new to report. 75th Anniversary Planning Committee Linda Harvell (chair), Patricia Cleere, Jerry Cooper, Susan Irza;
Linda Harvell reported that the 75th Anniversary Planning Committee will continue to meet through the summer. The committee is continuing to work on the book signing, vintage softball
game, tailgate vendors, and gala events. Linda also reported on attending the Tourism Forum sponsored by the BCS CVB. Jack Fugate will be the newsletter chair and will be putting together
news from the A&M CHS classes to include in it. College Station Timeline & College Station History Book Advisor Jerry Cooper, Morgan Hester (PH Intern); Jerry continues to work
on compiling a comprehensive listing of city elections, candidates, election tallies, terms served, resignations and deaths. The list will become an index in the 75th Anniversary history
book. Morgan is assisting in compiling a city history timeline. More discussion was held on the time capsule and an area in Veterans Park was suggested for its placement. College
Station Oral History Interviews & Educational Initiatives Libby Vastano, Susan Irza; Anne will try to set up an interview time with Mrs. Knowles, a retired first grade teacher at
A&M Consolidated Elementary School. She now resides at Crestview. We will also begin to reschedule the mayor and council member interviews to be held in Public Communications.
Anne Boykin, James McGinnis, Vicky Eastes (HP Volunteer); Vicky is working on editing and adding
to the list compiled by Anne.
Heritage Programs Acquisitions Tina Hanna (HP Volunteer); Tina is continuing to work on processing and scanning the city and university documents of Mayor Andy Anderson. Morgan
is preparing the documents and making notes for use by Glenn Davis for the 75th anniversary history book. Agenda Item #11: Show and Tell Lou Hodges brought an 1876 50¢ coin from the
Philadelphia Expedition and a reproduction of an 1800s spinning top. Thanks, Lou! Agenda Item #12: Calendar Events -April 27-May 1, 2011
