VOLUME I City of College Station Parks and Recreation Department April 1, 2011 Dear Friends of History, In 1965, my Government teacher at A&M Consolidated High School, Mrs. Hensley,
sent me on a mission to find our local FBI agent and invite him to speak to our class. I was a junior; the year was 1965. I decided after numerous unanswered phone calls that Agent Wiatt
was on a secret mission. I finally camped outside his office in the Dulie Bell USDA building one day, hoping he would appear. We finally connected and his presentation to our class was
fascinating and well worth the mission. “Bob Wiatt, „Mr. F.B.I.‟ – A Look Back” William T. Harper Wednesday, April 20, 2011; 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. College Station Conference Center

history from the early days when they settled in Steele‟s Store in the Brazos Bottoms. They were a part of the largest inland agrarian community of Italians in the nation. On some maps,
the community‟s previous name of Mudville still stands. Luke Patranella owned a grocery store for many years in College Station; first as a concession on campus, then at Northgate and
later at Eastgate. Luke along with Charles Opersteny opened a grocery store at Northgate called Luke‟s and Charlie‟s. At Easter time, Luke provided all of the eggs and ladies on the
A&M campus dyed the eggs for the big community Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt was held on campus near the floral gardens. The event was a highlight in the lives of children for many years.
Mr. Patranella passed away while visiting Mexico City on June 18, 1946. A Memorial Fund was established in his memory to distribute scholarships to high school graduates. This year,
College Station Police Department sponsors the 30th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on the grounds of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, April 16. Continue the tradition! Luke Patranella,
