Frederick William Hensel,
87, of College Station died late
Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at
St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
Graveside services are 'scheduled
for 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 14
at College Station Cemetery. A
visitation will her from 5 to 7 p.m.
Saturday, October 13 at Callaway-
Jones Funeral Home.
Born November 26, 1919, in
Bryan, Mr. Hensel grew up 'in
College Station. He attended
A,&M Consolidated and graduated
from high school in 1937. He enrolled at Texas A&M University
and graduated in May of 1941 He went into the U.S.Army in June
1941 as a second lieutenant.He served in the U.S.Field Artillery for
five years and saw combat in Europe. He was released in 1946 after
having attained the rank of major. He was proud and happy to have
been able to serve in World War II.
Mr. Hensel worked for Texas A&M University from 1946 until.
1982. During his, 36 year career, he served in various capacities
spanning several departments. He served for a number of years as
assistant placement director.During that time,he became president of
the Southwest Placement Officers Association.Later at the university,
he also was coordinator of continuing education and manager of the
University Center.
He was a long-time member of the American Legion and the Gulf
Coast Conservation Association,as well as the A&M Century Club.
He was a charter member of the Brazos County A&M Club.
He was a fisherman;an avid golfer and he loved to bowl. He was
pleased and humbled to have many fine friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents,F.W."Fritz"and Ara Lee
Hensel;and in June by his wife of 57 years,Frances Eaton Hensel.
Survivors include his sons,Donald Eaton Hensel and wife,Joanne,
of College Station, Frederick "Bill" Williem Hensel Jr. and wife,
Deborah, of Houston and Steven Stone Hensel and wife Dana of
Plano, Texas; and six grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Franci, Molly,
Stevie and Taylor.
