City of College Station Historic Preservation Committee 4/5/2010 MINUTES Historic Preservation Committee Monday, June 7, 2010 College Station Conference Center 1300 George Bush Drive,
Room 103 College Station, Texas 77840 4:00 pm Attendance: Earl Apgar, Pat Cleere, Louis Hodges, Hillary Jessup, Libby Vastano, Meredith Waller, Ernie Wright Approved Absence: Susan Irza,
Unapproved Absence: James McGinnis Staff Attendance: Anne Boykin, Heritage Programs Coordinator Visitors: Tina Hanna, Heritage Programs Volunteer Agenda Item #1: Call to Order Meeting
was called to order by Earl Apgar at 4:058 p.m. Agenda Item #2-3: Hear Visitors: Tina Hanna reported her observations of the Heritage Programs office: needs more space, needs a paid
staff assistant position, and could use The Annex as a combination meeting space, office and museum. Tina also reported that The Annex is closed with all utilities turned off which will
certainly be detrimental to any efforts to save the building. Agenda Item #4: Possible action and discussion on absence requests. Anne T. has sent in her resignation due to health reasons.
Anne B. has notified Connie Hooks, city secretary, and is waiting for a list of possible members to fill the space. Agenda Item #5: Possible action and discussion to approve meeting
minutes of regular meeting of May 3, 2010. Minutes were approved as written. (LV/hj) Agenda Item #6: Report from HPC Chairperson. Earl echoed the Tina’s concerns about The Annex and
called for the HPC members to make a stand. He requested that Anne B. prepare a packet of information on The Annex for presentation to the council and city officials. Also, Earl requested
that we plan a retreat for September at the Green Room. Earl also reminded folks to get their membership renewal applications in to the City Secretary’s office this month. Agenda Item
#7: Report from Heritage Programs Coordinator. See attached Progress Report. Anne gave a brief report about the items that have recently been scanned into the Project HOLD database.

scan documents and organize the office. Agenda Item #8: Report on 75th Anniversary meeting. Earl reminded HPC members that the 75th Anniversary Committee meeting was still on for Friday,
June 11. . Agenda Item #9: Committee Reports: • Development – Susan Irza No report at this time. Susan is out of town. • Native American Interpretive Path – Ernie Wright Ernie reported
that he has had further talks with Steve Beachy. Steve will prepare some of the information that is to be included on the interpretive panels for the path. Ernie noted that J. Payne
Lara, the sculptor for the Lynn Stuart Pathway monuments, is very accomplished in Native American art and could be a possible resource for us. • Historic Markers Program – Meredith Waller
No report. • Oral History Project – Lou Hodges Lou completed scanning of the Davis scrapbook. Lou offered to scan the Brazos Valley Heroes articles that are written about local veterans
by Bill Youngkin and appear in Sunday’s Eagle. • PR/Communications/Sponsorships – James McGinnis No report. James was absent. • Landmark Commission (Liaison) – Hillary Jessup Hillary
reported that there have been two tear downs on Dexter and West Dexter recently. She expressed concern that the historic district designation will not happen soon enough to save the
neighborhood. • Educational Initiatives/School Activities – Libby Vastano No report at this time. • Volunteer Recruitment – Anne Triche-Steen No report at this time. • Exploring History
Lunch Lectures – Earl Apgar Earl reported that Texas Roadhouse will provide the next luncheon. He also reminded us that the following lecture will be off site at the Masonic Library
on Longmire. Attendance will be limited to 85. He expressed some concerns about parking. Anne B. will include a special reminder to folks in her emails that they should car pool. Pete

policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. Agenda Item # 14: Adjourn Meeting was adjourned at 5:09
