VOLUME I City of College Station Parks and Recreation Department JANUARY 7, 2011 Dear Friends of History & Aggie Football, Tonight is the night! I‟m wearing my 12th Man jersey, my
grandfather‟s Aggie ring (‟24) and my father‟s Aggie ring (‟46) along with my Cotton Bowl pin from 1967. I still have the faded maroon sweatshirt displaying “Texas A&M Southwest Conference
Champs, 1967.”If the planets will align along with my trinkets, we‟ll be in good shape tonight when the Aggies line up at 7:00 p.m. The last time I went to a Cotton Bowl game was in
1967. Lucky me! GIG „EM! Barbara Donalson Althaus has been working on a manuscript for a number of years about Texas A&M and Dean Edwin J. Kyle. Barbara is an exceptional researcher
who left no stone unturned in this endeavor. The result will soon go to press as Kyle Tough – The saga of A&M’s rise to prominence in Athletics, Agriculture, Ambassadorial Service, 1902
– 1956. This story of the namesake of Kyle Field, a relative of Barbara‟s, is fascinating and a program you do not want to miss. Hope to see you there! Anne Boykin Sunday, February 6,

of College Station employees Mike Hancock and Curtis Hays . Both lights were manufactured by Crouse-Hinds and are reminiscent of the first College Station traffic light at the intersection
of Sulphur Springs Road and College Main at Northgate. The photo below shows city crews installing a “new” red/yellow/green traffic light to replace the “sporadic light” at Northgate
in 1957. So far, our 1940s and 1950s lights have managed to keep traffic in and out of the office somewhat under control. Thanks Guys! Mike Hancock, Traffic Systems Foreman Curtis Hays
