Agenda Item #1: Call to Order
Meeting was called to order at 4:10 p.m.
Agenda Item #2 -3: Hear Visitors
Molly Hitchcock, Senior Planner for Planning & Development Services
Agenda Item #4: Absences were approved. Motion by Marguerite Anthony /Second by
NealNutall
Agenda Item #5: Approval of the minutes
Motion by Meredith Waller /Second by Colleen Risinger
Agenda Item #6:
Molly Hitchcock, Senior Planner for Planning & Development Services presented the
preliminary materials for the overlay zoning for historic preservation. The final report will
be presented in July. Molly will send memos to the HPC as progress is made.
Agenda Item #7: Committee Reports
Parks Project Committee
Lou reported that the committee will be getting together after the first of the year. Steve
Beachy, and David Woodcock will be on the committee.
Exploring History Lunch Lectures
Lunch lectures will be held in January, February, April, May, September, October, and
November. The committee is in the process of securing verifications. Corporate
sponsorships for the lunch costs has been suggested by Wayne Larson, Director of Public
Communications and Marketing.
Historic Markers
Historic home marker applications were received from Susie and Lee Duggan for 304
Ayrshire and Mary O. Hanna for 1007 Hereford. Both markers were approved. Motion
by Meredith Waller /Second by Colleen Risinger for Duggan and Motion by Meredith
Waller /Second by NealNutall.
The Roan's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church historic building marker #7 will be
presented at the City Council meeting on December 13, 2007.
Oral History Project
Lou presented a copy of the "Brazos County History" by Glenna Brundidge. to the Project
HOLD library. He is working on acquiring the original unedited draft of the book for
Project HOLD. He stated that Ms. Brundidge might also give us the plaque that was
awarded to her for the book. He has completed the scanning of the Campus Kids oral
history. The next step will be editing.
Project HOLD
Project HOLD intern Alyson Sanders will be presenting her paper "Dice, Booze and
Whores: Irish Masculinity in the Confederate States of America" at the Phi Alpha Theta
Convention in Albuquerque in January 2008. Phi Alpha Theta is a history honor society.
Alyson completed over 113 hours in Project HOLD this semester and will continue to be
our intern next semester.
Education Committee
Marguerite discussed several ideas for promoting education of the community: history
camp for kids, working through the CSISD summer school for field trips and hands on
projects, re- enactments, and others. The Golden Memories video is still running on Ch. 19.
Peggy will ask Mark Beal to make copies of the `Golden Memories" video for the
schools.
Agenda Item # 8. Letter of Recommendation to City Council re: HPC appointments
No news back as yet.
