Place 5
Daniel Hernandez is a
1973 graduate of Texas
A&M and is the assistant
director of admissions at
Texas A&M University. A
native of Bryan, Hernandez
says he is running for Place
5 because he feels there is a
need for better communica-
tion between the city and
the people of the commun-
ity.
Hernandez is an active
member of Oak Grove
United Methodist Church,
and presently serves as
Youth Counselor. Also he
has been youth director for
several United Methodist
churches in Texas.
"I believe I can aritculate
some of the needs of the
community because of my
experience and back-
ground," Hernandez said.
People feel alienated from
the governmental system
because they feel they can't
do anything through the
system because the govern-
ment doesn't work for
them.
"I will try to make the
government in Bryan more
credible to the people,"
Hernandez added. He said
he would support a
program to renew interest
in the downtown area.
Also, he will support a
program for cooperation
between Bryan and College
Station.
goals are to help- ail of
Bryan in general, he said.
Hernandez has workec
locally with the Federal
Office of Economic Oppor-
tunity and the TExas
Employment Commission
and was on the Legal Aid
Commission while he was a
student at TAMU.
He said he would look tc
other sources of income to
alleviate unemployment
conditions in the local
economy and help seek
federal funds to develope
community programs.
Particular problem areas
seen by Hernandez include
the need for street
pavement and drainage
programs to be initiated in
the northwest and Castle
Heights areas of Bryan.
