On November 4th we (Madley & McHolland, Texas DPS,
Division of Disaster Emergency Services, Community
Shelter Planners, Austin, Texas) began conducting
an updating survey to re- evaluate the shelter
buildings and plans of Brazos County.
MADTFY : Shelter u -date work being conducted in
Brazos County.
The Civil Defense shelter program has been expanded
to include the evaluation of buildings to withstand
blast and natural disasters in addition to fallout
of radiation.
CANGLOSE: A good potential offshoot of this review
should be a survey to show tornado shelter potential
not only of buildings, but the better area of the
building -- especially in all schools.
MADLEY: Power control center TAMU evaluated on basis
of assured 2 weeks.. now control center cannot be
assured this basis so all campus shelters are being
re- evaluated on the basis of power -off situation.
This will reduce the people capacity of each shelter.
Now about 50% complete on campus survey -- expect to
complete Brazos County in January.
Survey being conducted on all potential shelter
buildings whehter licensed or not.
