Brazos County Civil Defense Meeting.
February 14,1964.
Seventeen people attended a meeting held at Wm. Hughes Cafe
Friday February 14th.. Mr. Jake Canglose ,Chairman presided at this
meeting.
Henry L.Alsmeyer,Brazos County Civil Defense Administrator
gave a report on the State 6onference,Texas Civil Defense Directors,
Stephan F. Austin Hotel,Austin,Texas. February 3- 4.Governor Connally
spoke to the group on the importance of Civil Defense in Texas.
Mr. Bill Parker,Regional Lirector,Region 5, Denton,Texas stated that
the president recommended an increase in Civil Defense appropraticns
while decreasing the overall budget.
Henry L.Alsmeyer also reported on civil Defense activities for
the county. One year ago only 1 Fallout Shelter License was signed
with a total of 355 spaces. how we have 32 Fallout Shelter Licenses
with a total of 9,63$ shelter spaces.Of these shelters signed 10
have been stocked with ffood,medicine and water containers to keep
people alive for 3 weeks. N of a shelter was marked,with Fallout
Shelter 8igns,in the county one year ago.We now have 2$ shelters
marked with Fallout Shelter signs in ;Bryan $,College Station 2
and Texas A &M University 1$ with a total of 2$ buildings with a
capacity of $ 5O9 people.
Dr. W.R.Bodine,Chief Instructor Civil Defense Training stated that
a Civil liefense Instructors Training Course would be held at Texas A&M
University March 9 -11. Mr. John Hill Director was asked to make
arrangements for a place to hold this meeting.Henry L.Alsmeyer ras
asked to make arrangements for a shelter in which to hold an all night
meeting.

A short directors mwwting was held to discuss some one to write
the news as we are now showing results was_decided to ask
Guy Horton who is on the information staff$ at Texas A&1
