The de- b ,� tails of the Radiological Monitoring Course were reviewed. Tuesday, July 22 - 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. Twenty one men from our law enforcement and fire departments registered. Col. Carroll Bell our Radiological Defense Officer, was the teacher of this course. Garland Latham - -- of the Texas Dept. of Health brought films and slide sets that were used as teaching aids and contributed generously to the training sessions. A "Radiological Monitoring Student Workbook" was used by each student. Pertinent sections of 1G -11.21 (May 1963) "Radiological Monitoring In- structors Guide" was used by the instructor. Twelve RADEF 777 -1 units. Wednesday, July 22 - 9 A.M. The training session was concluded with an exam- ination followed by discussion about each question. The student interest and participation was excell- ent and reflected the good teaching done by Bell and Lattram. Certificates will be prepared in Austin and be mailed to Jake Canglose for distribution to each student as recognition for completion of this training. Thursday, July 24 Bell and Latb.DL. distributed reconditioned RADEF 777 and 777 -1 kits to shelter personnel in Bryan, College Station and Texas A & M University. On August 12 Garland Latbatau will return with a proposed Radiological Monitoring Plan for Brazos County and five additional RADEF 777 Kits for fire and police departments that have newly trained monitors. Pringle - g (c 6 _ a g.-- Gentlemen: We are scheduling a Radiological Monitoring Course for all public service personnel July 22 and 23. This course will be conducted in the Brazos Center and will start at 9 A.M. each day and go until 3 P.M. with one hour for lunch. The purpose of this training is to insure that our community will have properly trained officers with available equipment to cope with either a Radioactive Materials accident or a Nuclear Attack. I feel that each Department should have a cadre trained to handle radioactive emergencies. The training course will be coordinated by Col. Carroll Bell of our office and he will contacting you in the near future for recruiting your participants. This training course will be a joint effort of the State Health Department and the Brazos County Civil Defense Office. Individuals who complete the course will be certified as qualified radiological monitors and will be issued certificates. Anyone interested in taking this course should contact the Brazos County Civil Defense Office from 8 A.M. until noon at 822 -7373, Ext. 219.
