1925 - 2006
enneth C. Krenek, 81, entered into eter-
peace with our Lord on Thursday,
ec. 7, 2006, after a lengthy illness.
Bom in College Station, TX, on Jan. 29,
1925, Ken was employed by the City i
Corpus Christi as Superintendent of
Parks for 34 years, from which he
retired in 1985.
Ken's devotion and love for his
family was rivaled only by the pas-
sionate loyalty he had for his
beloved ilma mater, Texas A &M
University, from which he graduat-
ed class of 1945 with a degree in
landscape architecture. Answering the
call from his country to serve in World
Waz B, Ken served as a pilot in the An r
Air Corps, where he stayed active as a
reservist for 40 years, retiring with the rank of
Major, USAF.
After serving his country and graduating
from school, Ken married the love of his life,
Mary Lou Hagedom, of Edinburg, TX, on Feb.
6, 1951. They moved to Corpus Christi to start
their new life together, which included his new
job with the city and raising their family of 5
children.
Ken had a variety of interests and was active
in many areas, most notably as a pilot, a master
gardener, and a woodworking craftsman, activ-
ities in which he spent countless hours flying
as well as growing and making things. But first
and foremost was his undying support for his
cherished Aggies. He was a long -time member
of the Nueces County A &M Club, a Century
Club Member, and a 12th Man Permanently
Endowed Scholarship Donor. Additionally, he
served on the 12th Man Foundation Board of
Directors for many years.
Ken's contributions over the years to the uni-
versity, and specifically to the athletic pro-
grams were varied and numerous, but none
were more important to him than his support of
the football team He attended virtually every
home game from the 1950s through 2004. All
of his fellow Aggies who knew him will surely
miss his frequent flashing of the "Gig `em"
sign!
He actively participated in numerous other
organizations during the years, including
Irving as past president of the Texas
Turfgrass Association; board member
of the Nueces County Program
Development Council, an agricul-
tural extension program; Moravian
Club member; Reserve Officers
Association member; St. Mary's
Holy Family Guild member; and
an active member of St. Pius X
Catholic Church.
Ken was preceded in death by his
ether, Theodore H. Krenek, in 1964;
,..� mother, Johann Stasny Krenek in
1990; and by his brother, Hugo H. Krenek in
2002.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 55
years, Mary Lou; son Robin Krenek of Hous-
ton, TX; son Tim Krenek and his wife Debbie
and daughter Holly of Bellaire, TX; daughter
Beckie Robinson and her husband Dennis and
stepson Adam of Houston, TX; son Jeff Krenek
of Portland, OR; and daughter Lisa Hedrick
and her husband Kenneth and stepdaughters
Kristen and Leslie of Houston, TX; sister
Gladys Patrick of College Station, TX; sister
Lillian Thompson of Longwood, FL; sister -in-
law Harriet Martin and her husband At of
Edinburg, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews,
and cousins.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 10,
2006, from 5:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m. in the Reid
Chapel at Seaside Memorial, 4357 Ocean Dr.,
78412, followed by a Rosary in the chapel at
7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Monday,
December 11, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Pius X
Catholic Church, 5620 Gollihar Rd., 78412,
followed by graveside services at Seaside
Memorial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the Texas A &M University 12th Man Founda-
tion or the Alzheimer's Association of South
Texas.
