Sometimes they do local history books, but they should have broader interest compo-
nents, as well.
Historic Guidelines
As I get further into this task, I realize that it has gone beyond my capability to
commit the sufficient time necessary to do a good job.
Our options are to find a committee member with more time available to commit to
the project or we might consider applying for a grant from the Texas Historical
Commision through their "Certified Local Government Grants Program ".
The purpose of this grant program is to "provide the necessary training and funding
to enable local communities to develop quality programs and fully participate in the
state's preservation process." Grants typically range from $250 to $5500.
Principals
A grant such as this could be used to fund a graduate student's research project
Charlie Burris, AIA (perhaps and architectural preservation student) dedicated to our task.

COLLEGE STATION ORAL HISTORY BOOK
SPECIAL MEETING - APRIL 1, 1998
REVIEW QUESTIONS FOR CONTRACT DEVELOPMENT
1. Has a scope of services been prepared? If not:
Exactly what will we be contracting with the author to do?
Will he prepare a manuscript?
How many pages will we require him to prepare?
Will the author make editing changes at our request or de we want to reserve
the right to edit his material?
Do we want a hard copy of the manuscript or a computer- formatted disk, or
both?
2. Is the City going to publish the book?
3. When do we want a final manuscript from the author?
4. Are we providing information or support to the author? If so, what?
5. What form do we want the final work delivered to us in? Hard copy, disk, some
other form?
6. Are we reimbursing the author for any expenses, (i.e. mailings, copies, scanning,
other, etc.)?
7. Will the City be reproducing any of the author's work in a format other than a
book (i.e. on -line, CD -ROM, or other electronic formats)?
8. How will the City pay the author? An initial payment upon delivery with the
remainder at time of publication, or a certain percentage for a certain number of
pages produced?
9. Will we require the author to submit a certain number of pages at specified times
throughout the term of the contract, or just set a final date due?
10. Will the author provide anything other than a manuscript, like logos, concepts,
etc.?
11. Any other terms or conditions?
