HomeMy WebLinkAbout09 PH Progress Report 09.30.2006 PROJECT HOLD PROGRESS REPORT Anne Boykin Heritage Coordinator Neighborhood Services Information Systems Sept. 1- 30, 2006 August Acquisitions —54 pages in 29 files September Acquisitions — 671 pages in 15 files College Station Conference Center Heritage Display • The Panther Pride: Lincoln High School Football of 1949 -1965 exhibit is in the works and will be installed in October. Connections • Victoria (Martinez) Nichols, referred by David Gerling of Parks and Recreation Department, is interested in applying for a historic marker for her family home at 201Fairview. She was sent an application and invited to contribute to Project HOLD. • Martha Daniel, Dorothy Miller's daughter, sent in a packet of College Station memorabilia. One document contributed information on Mrs. Fred L. Sloop, a former teacher and principal of A &M Consolidated Schools. Mrs. Sloop is well known for her methods of teaching phonics through her "Dot, Jim and Tag" textbook series. • Terry Boriskie, of Planning &Development Services, brought in several pieces of memorabilia of his wife's grandparents. The collection included: a program from the Hood's Brigade Centennial celebration containing a history of Bryan and the surrounding area written by local historian John Milton Nance, a December 26, 1913 "Burleson Gazette" newspaper, and Ford Motor Co. service bulletins from 1928 -1930. Laserfiche • The new Project HOLD webpage is operational. Project HOLD Moment in History • The now August/September issue of the PH Moment in History "The Three R's, readin', `ritin' and' rithmetic," is set to be released on September 28 Oral History Team • Staff will be attending a Society of American Archivist Oral History workshop at TAMU on Oct. 6th Volunteers • Please continue to submit your hours so that they may be documented in the Points of Light foundation database. • Alyson Sanders, our new volunteer, is doing a wonderful job of scanning in documents. She will be in the PH office on Tuesday afternoons from 3 -5pm. Alyson is from Lubbock and working toward her bachelors at TAMU in History. Her area of emphasis is the history of England.
