Brides of the Brazos Exhibit
• Will be replaced in September with "Panther Pride, Lincoln High School Football 1949-
1965;" Lance Jackson from Lincoln Center gave a copy of the Panther PowerPoint presentation
to me. It was shown at the Panther Reunion on August 5, 2006. It features the football teams
under the direction of Coach Delley. The exhibit will include photos from the PowerPoint
presentation as well as from Project HOLD (PH) files and memorabilia from the teams. When
the exhibit closes, it will be placed on permanent display at Lincoln Center.
Connections
• I will be compiling information from Project HOLD for the Arts Council of Brazos Valley
Archives Project which is designed to compile, archive and share images, articles, stories,
souvenirs and mementos of the numerous programs and events from the Arts Council of Brazos
Valley's 36 years. Padraic Fisher, Director of ACBV, is eager to share their information with
Project HOLD as well.
• Heather Platz, PARD, asked me to research Wolf Pen Creek history for their signage project. I
gave her the basic information we had concerning the origin of the name of the creek. Also, I
referred her to Tom Taylor and the American Mile Committee.
• Betty Davis, A &M Consolidated High School teacher and member of the Descendants of
George Washington's Troops at Valley Forge, is willing to share some of her family's history
with us.
• Katie and I, with the help of Casey Skelton (IS Systems Analyst), presented PH to the Senior
Computer Club, Aug. 23rd. The presentation was hampered somewhat by technical difficulties
with the new homepage. Casey is working to resolve the problems.
• Mary Ellen Bell revealed that she has a wealth of CS memorabilia stored in her home. She has
offered to share it with us in the coming months. I have offered to help her go through some of
the pieces.
• Jennifer Hageman, TAMU graduate student in the Department of Recreation, Park and
Tourism Sciences, has requested assistance in researching PH for a diversity lecture series at
A &M this year. I believe this is a direct result of the recent connection with Lou Hodges who is
compiling an online historical archive of the TAMU Department of Recreation and Parks.

• Kenny Wetzel, 503 Angus, has requested historical information on his recent purchase of
Historic Marker home #36. I have referred him to our Historic Marker files on the website and
have offered to meet with him in case he needs any assistance.
• Dorothy Miller has put me in touch with her daughter, Martha Daniel in Lubbock. Martha has
offered to share a significant amount of memorabilia with PH concerning her days in school at
A &M Consolidated in the 40s. Martha's comments on PH, "Dorothy sent me the link several
months ago and I have had a good time going through the articles and remembering a lot of the
events and people."
• Amy Anderson, a PhD student at TAMU, has requested assistance in researching CSISD
history. She "stumbled across the Project HOLD website" and needed assistance in printing
some of the files.
• Karen Karli Webb called and also needed assistance in navigating the PH website. I talked her
through the basics and emailed a copy of the instructions to her.
• Lindsey Boyer, P &DS Staff Planer, requested a bit of help compiling information for the tour
of possible Historic Districts. I referred her to the Brundidge, "History of Brazos County," CITE
magazine articles and the Balliew "College Station Texas 1938 - 1988."
• Randy Brumley, Community Development, donated framed photographs of Northgate 1920
and a WWI Parade in downtown Bryan, c. 1914, to the PH office.
• Steve Beachy, Director of Parks and Recreation, donated news articles and a china plate
commemorating the City of College Station 50th birthday to the PH office.
Laserfiche
• The new PH home page made its debut August 23rd. There are still a few bugs to be worked
out. Currently, the search and template features are not working. A redesign has been requested
by Olivia Burnside so that the page will be more in keeping with the City of CS website look.
Also, Olivia tells me that the web address for PH will change to be more in keeping with the
other COCS departmental home pages. The new address will most likely be: http: / /cstx.gov/hold
Project HOLD Moment in History
• The August issue of the PH Moment in History topic is "The Three R's, readin', `ritin' and'
rithmetic." The issue has been delayed awaiting approval from Katie and Olivia.
Oral History Team
• James L. Boone III of Albuquerque, New Mexico, has generously donated a digital recorder
to the Oral History Team.
Volunteers
• Please continue to send in your hours so that I may document them in the Points of Light
foundation database.
• Mary Berri occasionally scans in newspaper articles.
• The church history request letters have not gone out as yet.
• Alyson Sanders, a TAMU student, has volunteered to learn scanning. Hopefully, she will
begin in September with an afternoon or two a week.
