VL SHILOH COMMUNITY MARKER UPDATE:
The Texas Historical Commission has ordered the marker for casting and it

David Gerling stated that a date was already set for the dedication of the
marker, which will be April 11th, 1992.

Eric volunteered to do the research on the railroad station. He will update the
Committee as he acquires the information. Gary stated that the marker will
probably go on the A &M campus as a site marker. Gary stated his concern
about the City paying for markers that go on campus. He feels like A &M should
be paying for the ones that go on their property. The City is paying for the
railroad marker.
IX. BRAZOS HERITAGE SOCIETY REQUEST:
The Society is updating their "Guide to Historic Brazos County" and would like
the Historical Committee to donate $1000 to the project. They won't need the

budget year. $750 will go to the Rockprairie Church marker, leaving a $1500
balance. David stated that all proceeds from the Conference Center's Folk Fest
Ball on October 12th, will go to the Historical Committee. David gave each
member 6 tickets to sell for the Ball. The tickets are $20 per person and 150
tickets were produced. With each ticket bought, the person will receive a
complimentary Folk Fest ticket for the entire weekend. The Committee decided
to invite Colleen Batchelor to the next Historical meeting to explain in more
detail about their project. The Committee agreed to defer the decision to
donate $1000 until a later date.
X. OTHER COMMITTEE CONCERNS:
Eric is in the process of purchasing four acres of cleared land on Dowling Road
and would like to donate the use of his land for temporary homesites for any
possible historic homes that are facing destruction.
David stated that the Parks Department is in the process of relocating Richard
Carter's grave. They will start the digging at noon on September 27th. So far
they have found his grave, his wife Elizabeth's grave and two others. They will
be relocated at Richard Carter Park. The gravestones are still missing. Gary
would like to see the gravestones reconstructed from the ictures that the
Committee has. The park is located on the former homesite of Richard Carter.
The A &M Consolidated Rural School marker dedication will be October 1st, at
