HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/08/1991 - Regular Minutes - Historic Preservation Committee HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING WEDNESDAY, MAY 8, 1991 CENTRAL, PARK CONFERENCE ROOM MEMBERS PRESENT: Gary Halter, Chairman; Joan Lampkin, Lois Beach, Norma Teetes, Eric Schulte, MEMBERS ABSENT: Les Hawkins, Roger Feldman, Jim Gardner, Council Liaison STAFF PRESENT: David Gerling, Special Facilities Superintendent; Bridgette George, Receptionist /Secretary VISITORS PRESENT: Betty Potter Fry, Nita & Manning Smith, Peter & Rebecca McIntyre L CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes for April and May will be approved at the June meeting. III. PRESENTATION OF HISTORIC HOMES PLAQUES: Lois presented the following Historic Homes Plaques: #5 - 611 Montclair; Peter and Rebecca McIntyre #2 - 502 Kerry; Betty Potter Fry #4 - 1004 Ashburn Avenue; Nita & Manning Smith The following plaques will be presented at a later date: #3 - 607 Old Jersey; Jack Inglis #6 - 716 Park Place; Raymond Rogers Betty Fry donated an abstract of her land to the Committee. It will be put in her file at Central Park. Gary suggested having the Historic Homes Plaques presented at City Council meetings. Gary will check with Larry and see if he approves. IV. REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS FOR HISTORIC MARKERS: One application was received. The Committee approved the application. It is #7 - 115 Lee : Anna Lou Jessup. David Gerling stated that Doug Padderson who owns 908 & 912 Montclair ust found out about the Historic Homes Plaques and asked for two applications for the houses. David will request more information on the houses for the archives. Historic Preservation Committee Wednesday, May 8, 1991 Page 2 V. UPDATE ON ROCK PRAIRIE CHURCH: The wording came back from the state. The State has asked that some footnotes be put in. The Committee reviewed the document and Lois wrote in the footnotes. It will be resubmitted to the State. VL UPDATE ON SHILOH COMMUNITY: Gary read the wording and didn't see anything wrong with it. He gave it back to Steve Beachy and it has been sent to the Texas Historical Commission. VII. UPDATE ON EASTERWOOD AIRPORT: Les was not here to report on Easterwood Airport. The Committee believes that the airport is not 75 years old and may not qualify for a historical marker. VIII. UPDATE ON COLLEGE STATION RAILROAD STATION: Norma will report on the railroad station next month. IX. OTHER COMMITTEE CONCERNS: Lois stated that the house at 107 Williamson is gone, and has been for quite a while. One neighbor stated that she thought it was torn down two years ago. Lois is going to check with the building inspection department and see if they know what happened to it. Lois went to the Brazos Heritage Society meeting. They are going to have their February 8th and 9th Tour in College Station. There will be five houses to tour. Lois stated that the house at 704 Hereford is a Sears house, and the Society thinks that it's the last remaining Sears house. David will find out if the Brazos Heritage Committee can sell lemonade at Brison Park on February 8th & 9th. Also, will the Parks Department waive the Vendors Permit fee if it is sponsored by the Historical Committee. The Society is going to have a Christmas Stroll in Heritage Park in Bryan, December 6th & 7th. They need some performers from College Station. The Committee will let Lois know if they think of anyone. The Harvey Mitchell Founders Weekend will be April 10, 11 & 12th. A plaque will be posted on campus. Eric presented a copy of a letter that he wrote to the Clancys, asking them what they plan to do with their house. Joan put it with her records. X. ADJOURN: The meeting was adjourned at 8:36 P.M.
