with the first plaque for a historical house.
M. SWEAR IN ERIC SCHULTE:
Eric Schulte was sworn in as a Committee Member by Chairman Gary Halter.
IV. HEAR VISITORS:
No visitors present. Gary took this time to discuss Henry Detlaw's book Pictorial
History of College Station. Henry has donated the rest of his books to the City
of College Station and they are currently stored in the City Secretary's office.
Gary received a letter stating that they needed to be moved and he would like to
see if the Parks Department could find a place to store them. There are about
2000 books left. David Gerling said that he would speak with Connie and get
them moved to a safe location. Consideration of distribution will be discussed at
the next meeting.
V. UPDATE ON ROCK PRAIRIE CHURCH:
The historic marker application is proceeding to the county commission at the
next meeting on April 22, 1991 at 7:00 PM. Gary doesn't expect any problems
with the application. Gary wrote the first draft and the church then went through
and suggested rewording some of it. It then came back to the committee and was
reprocessed.

VII, REVIEW APPLICATIONS FOR HISTORIC MARKERS:
Out of all the forms that were mailed out only 11 were returned. We have
received 5 historic marker applications. The applications were passed around for
committee approval. All of the applications were approved. A policy was passed
stating that after approval by the committee, a letter would be mailed to them
asking that they send in their $65 so that they can be presented with their plaque
at the next Historical Meeting. The addresses follow and are preceded by their
plaque number. The plaque numbers are determined by the order in which the
application was received. #2 - -502 Kerry: Betty Potter Fry; #3- -607 Old Jersey:
Jack Inglis; #4--1004 Ashburn Avenue: Mrs. Manning Smith; #5- -611 Montclair
Avenue: Peter McIntyre; #6-716 Park Place: Raymond Rogers (Approved but
David will request more information about the history of the house).
VIIL OTHER COMMTITEE CONCERNS:
Lois accepted a request to be the liaison between this committee and the
Heritage Committee in Bryan. She is invited to the next meeting which will be
Wednesday, April 17th. They would like all the historic tour houses to be in
College Station next Spring.
There are two other marker applications that Gary would like the committee to
work gathering information on and writing: The College Station Railroad Station
and Easterwood Airport. Norma said that she would work on the Railroad
Station and Les volunteered to work on Easterwood Airport.
Texas A &M University has agreed to let the Railroad marker be placed on their
land. A spot has not been designated yet. After gathering all the information
needed for the application, the committee will ask A &M where they would like
to put the State Marker. The committee will also find out what kind of
ceremony, if any, they would like to have. David and Gary will check to see if
there is a price difference between the State Marker on a post and without a
post.
Eric stated that Vera Dowell passed away a few months back and that the family
previously tried to donate her house to the University, but A &M has a policy not
to allow wooden structures on the campus. Eric suggested turning it into a Bed
& Breakfast, at its current location. Gary would like some prior commitment
from the City Council for a budget, in order to be able to move houses, like the
Dowell house. Les suggested the committee should push the Heritage Village
issue. The committee would like to purchase a 5 acre track at Wolf Pen Creek,
put some historic houses there and name it Heritage Village.
Eric said that Dr. Van Riper told him that the house at 107 Williamson was
gone. Lois will go by that location and investigate the situation. She will also
contact the City of Bryan and find out what happened to it; whether it was
moved or torn down.
IX. ADJOURN:
Gary adjourned the meeting at 8:05 pm.
