First and foremost, congratulations on your successful reelection as Mayor (President) of
Salamanca! This achievement is a testament to your leadership and the trust the people of
Salamanca have placed in you.
I hope this message finds you well. As you may recall, the Sister Cities program between
Salamanca and Bryan/College Station, Texas, was created to foster meaningful exchanges and
strengthen global connections between our communities. Our goal is to serve as a trusted
resource, celebrating the rich cultural and educational ties that unite us.
Salamanca was specifically chosen as our Mexican Sister City because of the unique bond
between the University of Guanajuato at Salamanca and Texas A&M University. This
partnership began with engineering students visiting Texas A&M and, in return, Texas A&M
students visiting Salamanca. Over time, the exchange expanded to include high school students
and adults from various sectors such as government, education, economics, and civic groups, all
of whom are eager to explore further collaboration between our cities.
Unfortunately, the pandemic disrupted this regular exchange process, but we are optimistic that
we can soon resume these valuable interactions. We remain open to coordinating mutually
beneficial visits for both youth and adults when the time is right. We understand that a group
from Salamanca faced challenges in obtaining visas several months ago, and we sincerely regret
that this hindered your plans. We are hopeful that we can overcome this obstacle moving
forward. We also look forward to organizing return visits to Salamanca for interested participants
when conditions allow.
Finally, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional hospitality we received
during our delegation's visit to Salamanca two years ago. It was a memorable experience, and
we are eager to continue nurturing the cultural, educational, and trade exchanges between our
communities as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued partnership, and we look forward to further strengthening the
bonds between Salamanca and Bryan/College Station. Once again, congratulations on your
reelection.
Sincerely yours,
Mayor John Nichols
