RE: DECEMBER PROJECT HOLD PROGRESS REPORT
November Acquisitions —224 pages in 24 files
• Susan Chmelar, Finance Staff Assistant, has donated her 1955 Ginger doll, three of
Susan's own baby dresses, a pair of her baby shoes, and a vintage pair of opera length
white gloves with pearl buttons in original J.C. Penney's plastic bag ($3.50) to Project
HOLD.
• Bill Cody, Risk Manager, has arranged for the folks in Traffic to rewire the vintage
Crouse -Hinds traffic light in PH to operate as a real traffic light.
College Station Conference Center Heritage Display
• The Panther Pride: Lincoln High School Football of 1949 -1965 exhibit has been
installed at the Conference Center. Plans are underway for The Eagle's reporter, April
Avison, to meet with the Delley's at the exhibit for an interview and news coverage.
Connections
• Rebecca Hankins, Certified Archivist and Assistant Professor of Africana Studies and
Librarian/Curator at Cushing Memorial Library & Archives, met with Anne and Colleen
Risinger to discuss linking Project HOLD with the online website of the Cushing
Archives. Rebecca is a member of a Cushing Library committee that is researching data
storage software. We will be working with Olivia Burnside and Peggy Calliham to set up
a forum to share information with Rebecca and her committee.
• Jamey Bryant sought help from the Project HOLD office the week before Christmas
looking for photos of Northgate and Charley's Food Market. He wanted to present the
photos to his grandfather, Arnold Senberra, for Christmas. Mr. Senberra worked at
Charley's in the 30s and 40s. We were able to Photoshop several photos from the PH
website that were suitable for framing. Mr. Senberra's name was also added to our list of
potential oral history subjects.
Project HOLD website
• Peggy has been updating the links to and information about Project HOLD on the City
of College Station website. By typing in "Project HOLD" in the box under "I want to" on
the left side of the City's website home page, the PH links will pop up directly
underneath. Also, Project HOLD shows up under the Quick Search pull down menu.
Look for more changes in the coming weeks. Thanks, Peggy!
Laserfiche
• Our Laserfiche guru, Casey Skelton, will be leaving for a new job in Plano in January.
We are sorry to see her go. Casey has been a most efficient, knowledgeable and patient
systems analyst always quick to come to our aid in times of need.
Project HOLD Moment in History
• The topic for the January issue of the newsletter will be Lincoln School.
• We will reprint copies of the "Millican Riot" newsletter to hand out at the January
Exploring History Lunch Lecture on the same topic.
Oral History Team
• Mary Hamlin has completed interviews with Nell and Willie Pruitt.
• Mary will wait for me to catch up with her (placing audio interviews online) before
conducting any more interviews this next month.
Volunteers
• Please continue to submit your hours so that they may be documented in the Points of
Light foundation database.
• Scans are down this month due to the holidays and in the absence of volunteers.
• Ruth Bramson was in several times this week to help in the overhaul and cleaning out
of Project HOLD and Neighborhood Services. Her help is greatly appreciated!
