Here it is, well into our first week in February and we're already eager to learn more about our local history, enjoy the company of our friends, and celebrate our rich Brazos Valley heritage. A couple of years ago, a most fascinating and dynamic woman came into my office to talk about an idea she had that involved giving young folks confidence through public readings in front of a TV camera. She was so enthusiastic and interesting, that I was ready to sign up right then and there. Our conversations wandered from writings, readings, travels, and fossils to space ships. Etha Gray, author, DJ, news anchor, film maker, playwright and poet, will be our speaker for the February edition of the "Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series." Ms. Gray's topic, African-American Heritage in Brazos Valley, is a subject near and dear to her heart. She is working with the Brazos Valley African American Museum to present what, I know, will be a very informative and poignant de?piction of a most valuable facet of our history. Etha's books are locally available at Hastings Books. To learn more about Ms. Gray, visit her website: www.ethaemm.homestead.com.
