Projects to make
history come alive
om Turbiville is doing great
Tthings for folks of all ages in
our community. Be it veter-
ans, arts enthusiasts, or sports
enthusiasts, almost everyone has
heard Tom's "voice" through the
mic or through his keyboard.
Tom's column (Eagle, Dec. 28)
spoke the truth when it comes to
interesting young people in local
history. Short of having a tooth
pulled, studying history is just
about dead last on their list of fun
things to do on a Sunday afternoon.
But have they tried a scavenger
hunt on the American Mile at
Veterans Park? Youngsters from
KOR Education School participated
in a history scavenger hunt on the
American Mile last May. For about
an hour, more than 50 students ran
back and forth on the history trail
looking for answers to 20 questions
based on the moments in our
nation's history spelled out on the
brick pavers. The Project HOLD
office gave each student a certifi-
cate and a city of College Station
pin for completing the course.
Project HOLD, part of Heritage
Programs at the city of College
Station, invites all young students
to complete the history trail and
the scavenger hunt.
The historically inclined should
contact the Project HOLD office at
979-764-3491.
