The walking tour began at the parking lot behind the Texas Aggie Book Store and
covered an area bounded by Patricia, College Main, University Drive, First Street,
Church Street and back to College Main and Patricia. Problems in the area were point-
ed out, some of which included parking; vacant, unusable buildings; poor view
at intersections; narrow streets; trash and dirt collecting on streets and grounds;
sidewalks which are unusuable by handicapped persons; sidewalks in disrepair; and
abandoned cars.
Various ideas were mentioned as possible steps toward helping to solve some of the
problems, and these included required repair or condemnation of burned out, vacant
buildings; reverting to angled parking along University Drive; establishment of a
large, City-owned parking lot to be used as a recreational area during specified
hours; trade-off of land between the City and property owners in this area; as well
as various other suggestions.
Informal. discussion took place throughout the tour; however, no decisions were
reached. The next meeting/walking tour of the Northgate Committee was announced
for 8:00 P.M. on March 2nd to begin at the Presbyterian Church parking area on
Church Street, and everyone was invited to attend.
The meeting was informally adjourned and the group dispersed at approximately
12:45 P.M.
