Room #1 College Station, Texas 77840 Attendance: Marguerite Anthony, Lou Hodges, Colleen Risinger, Meredith Waller, Ernie Wright Approved Absence: Jane Hughey, Anne Triche-Steen Unapproved Absence: Neal Nutall Staff Attendance: Anne Boykin Agenda Item #1: Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 4:10 p.m. Agenda Item #2-3: Hear Visitors None present. Agenda Item #4: Absence Request Jane Hughey (AT/MA) Agenda Item #5: Approval of the minutes Motion was made, seconded to approve the minutes. (CR/EW) Agenda Item #6: Committee Reports Parks Project Committee (Lou and Jane) No progress as yet although Lou did visit with Mrs. Woodcock. Exploring History Lunch Lectures (Ernie, Jane and Hillary)Anne B. confirmed Bill Harper presenting the May program on his book, “Eleven Days in Hell” about the Huntsville prison siege. Tom Turbiville is confirmed for the September program on “Aggie Sports, Then and Now”. There will be be no programs through the summer. Historic Markers (Meredith and Hillary) The committee considered Brian Barrett’s application for 118 Pershing. The application was tabled for further review. Oral History Project (Lou and Anne Steen)Anne B. reported that Bill McWhorter, THC Military Sites, will conduct an oral history workshop for us in March 2009. Project HOLD (Lou, Colleen and Anne Steen) See attached report. Education Committee (Jane, Ernie, Marguerite, and Lou) Hillary reported that we should consider the San Antonio Historic Preservation Workshops as a possible resource. Agenda Item # 7: Texas Historic Commission Annual Heritage Preservation Conference Anne B. reported that the conference was a success. She made numerous contacts and picked up reference literature that will be very helpful to us. Agenda Item #8: Heritage Preservation Month in May Anne B. reported that KOR Education School has asked for the HPC sponsorship of an American Mile History Scavenger Hunt to be held May 16 at 10am. There will be about 40 students involved. The city will sponsor this group with certificates for the students as well as lapel pins and cookies. Agenda Item #9: 70th Birthday of the City of College Station No new discussion. Agenda Item #10: Calendar Events May 21, 2008 Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series "Eleven Days in Hell: The 1974 Carrasco Prison Siege Siege at Huntsville, Texas" (Winner of the Violet Crown Award, 2005) William T. Harper 11:30 am -1:00 pm June 2, 2008 HPC Meeting, 4pm Agenda Item #11: Final Hear Visitors None present. Agenda Item #12: Future Agenda Items Hillary will contact Connie Hooks regarding new HPC member applications. It was suggested that a letter to Neal thanking him for his contributions to the HPC during his term would be in order. Ernie mentioned that he would be absent for the June 2 meeting. Agenda Item # 13: Adjourn Meeting was adjourned at 4:55 pm.
