HomeMy WebLinkAbout02 HPC PH PROGRESS REPORT Feb 2007Staff Report to HPC: Feb. 28, 2007 Staff: Anne Boykin RE: FEBRURY PROJECT HOLD PROGRESS REPORT February Acquisitions – 6 files, 236 pages • Notes from City Council meetings from early 90s by Norma Miller (12 paper boxes full) College Station Conference Center Heritage Display • College Station in the Sixties will open in July at the Conference Center. The exhibit will coincide with the 60s Decade Reunion sponsored by the A&M CHS Class of ’67. We have plenty of photographs from that time but would like to have memorabilia. Connections • Jay Koenig, Metadata Librarian, Digital Initiatives, Research, and Technology; Sterling C. Evans Library. Jay has expressed an interest in learning more about our website and Laserfiche. He was very complimentary of Project HOLD. • Bill Page, Cushing Library, has mentioned that his research into College Station school history revealed that although there were schools on campus as early as the 1880s (and probably 1876), the Texas legislature created the A. & M. School District Jan. 18, 1909. His suggestion was to start now in planning for a 100 year celebration of the College Station school district(s). He suggests that someone might want to write a 50 year history of the College Schools pre-incorporation through 1959. I have forwarded this information on to Ann Ganter, CSISD, who is very interested in doing this. Bill will put it on the agenda for the next Brazos County Historical Commission meeting March 12. Bill also mentioned that Project HOLD Website • Project HOLD website home page now has links to the Cushing Digital Archives and the Sam Houston Sanders Corps of Cadets Center. • A meeting with Olivia Burnside, Peggy Calliham and Ben Roper was very productive as far as addressing the issue of search difficulties on the website. The search feature will be perfected soon. Project HOLD Moment in History • Next issue due out in March Oral History Team • Oral histories are on hold (no pun intended) until our new cassette tape converter arrives any day now. Volunteers • Colleen began scanning again on Tuesday mornings. Welcome back!
