DID YOU KNOW THAT
MADISONVILLE ONCE HAD A
RAILROAD? This is the depot of the
I.&G.N.R.R. (International Great
Northern Railroad). The depot was
built as close to the square as they
could get it. They started running on.
train a day into town, a combination
freight and passenger train. Later,
IGN switched to a daily freight and a
daily passenger run. At train time,
around 1:00 or 1:30 in the afternoon,
everyone went to the depot to see the
train come in, mostly the freight. A
commercial track was built around
town and freight was unloaded near
Commerce Street on the east side of
the square. Some of those pictured
