Cefe6rate 60th Wedding JInniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Calvin C. Boykin,Jr. of College Station, Texas,
celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday,July 1,2006.
Cal married Rosemary DePasquale in Dickinson, Texas, onJune
30, 1946. Rosemary had just earned a Bachelor of Arts degree
from Southern Methodist University where she was a member
of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Cal's studies at A&M College were
interrupted in 1943 when he enlisted in the US Army during
World War II. He served with the 814th Tank Destroyer Bat-
talion of the 7th Armored Division through four campaigns in
Europe. He finished his Bachelor of Science degree from A&M
College in 1949. He later earned his Masters of Agricultural
Economics from A&M in 1956.
Rosemary and Cal have lived most of their married life in
College Station except for five years in West Texas, two years in
New Mexico, two years in California and ten years when they
lived overseas in Syria, Botswana and Lesotho while Qal worked
under contract for the US Agency for International Develop-
ment: Other foreign assignments took Cal to Pakistan, Iran,
Somalia, North Yemen, and Ecuador. Cal is retired from the
Texas Agricultural Extension Service. Rosemary worked for the
Department of Oceanography and Meteorology, Evans Library,
and the Spasecraft Oceanography program at Texas A&M for
a number of years.
Cal published a history of his Battalion, now in its fourth print-
ing. He also writes. for military history magazines and publica-
tions. Rosemary has published a history of the Brazos Valley
Italians, an oral history of the Steele Store Italians and her own
Depasquale family history.
The Boykins have four children: Karen Lee Peterson and hus-
band, David, of Mission, Texas and Tecoman, Colima, Mexi-
co; Elizabeth Anne Boykin of College Station; C. Clay Boykin
III and wife, Laurie Bell of Austin, Texas; and Thomas Heath
Boykin and wife, Katyla Mariela of College Station.
The Boykins have seven grandchildren: Lance Arvid Peterson
of. Tecoman; Daren Ray Peterson of Lubbock, Texas; and Ryan
Peterson of Mission; Tamara Anne Gunter of Austin, and her
brother, Thomas Arthur Gunter of Austin; and Brandon Heath
Boykin and his sister, Kensey Lee Boykin of College Station.
Rosemary and Cal are also very proud of their four great-
grandchildren: Lance and Marcela's daughter Carmen Peterson
of Tecoman; and April and Thomas Arthur Gunter's children,
Thomas Allen Gunter, Ava Delaine Gunter, and Forrest Calvin
Gunter, all of Austin, Texas. .
The Boykins hosted an Open House in their home in College
Station for their family and friends. Honored gnests were three
rp.embers of the original wedding party: Rosemary's aunt Mrs.
. Joe DePasqual of Dallas, Texas; Rosemary's sister Dr. Dolores
DePasquale McCorkle of Euless, Texas; and Cal's sister MissJo
Anne Boykin of Austin.
