Th' I enJamm omas (Tom) Yager, Jr., died I March 12, 2006 at his I dau.ghter's residence in I Austm. I He was born March 19, I 1922 in the Brazos bottom near . Wellborn. He was a direct descendant I of the Yager family of Yager Lane in Austin. He graduated I from Texas A&M University with a degree in Animal Husbandry in 1942, and was commissioned as an officer in the 1st Cavalry. Tom married Nettie Woodson on April 8, and shortly thereafter proudly served his country in WWII in the Philippines and Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1946, having been awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. . After retiring from military service, Tom returned to his wife in Caldwell and became partner in the Woodson Lumber Companies, where he worked for over 50 years. He served many years as the companies' President and CEO I where his influence continues to this day. Tom was elected President of the Lumbermen's Association of Texas in 1970, and was given the Lumberman of the Year Award by the Association in 1976. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner, a lifetime member of Warren Lodge #56 and York RiteLodge. He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Thomas (Tommy) Yager, III and his sister Mary Frances Yager, his mother Mae Foster Yager, his father Benjamin Thomas Yager Sr., and his uncle Guy W. Foster. He is survived by Nettie Yager, Candy Yager Rogers, Victor, Wynden, and Colt Rogers of Austin, Ann Yager Chapman, Stuart, Kate, and Philip Chapman of Bryan. Special appreciation is extended by the family to those who extended loving care to Tom. His doctor Leonor Frierson-Stroud. His caregivers Grace Cantu, Elizabeth Awala, Paula Cervantes, Lydia Medrano of Austin and Lakendra adak, Pamela Robinson, Catherine Dawson, and Ruth Brooks of Bryan. A visitation will be held at Hillier Funeral Home from 11 a.m.-I p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2006, with Graveside Services following at Restever Memorial Park at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center and the TAMU Student Leadership ~etreat Center.
