HomeMy WebLinkAboutXmasletterDec05Merry Christmas to All!
We lived in reasonably decent health during 2005, all things considered. Between periodic bouts with gout and arthritis, Rosemary completed much of her scrapbook reorganization
and jotting down family memoirs, while Cal continued walking his two miles each morning rather than jogging, as of old.
Cal has continued teaching his course in writing memoirs for the City of College Station and College Station Independent School District Xtra Education program. He received a surprise
when our younger daughter Anne, who lives with us for now, appeared in his class last Fall. He feels he had little to offer her as she writes her memoir of growing up in College Station,
mainly, but also in Las Cruces, New Mexico and Davis and Pleasant Hill, California. Two other interested and creative class members, Mary and Ruth, have continued to meet with us at
our home to continue our joint readings, lively discussions and commentaries. Our Kansas friends of Botswana days, David and Linda Norman attended one class while visiting us.
Following an April shower in our home the wedding of our Karen’s and David’s son Ryan to Daniella came off in Mission in grand style in June. Katyla’s and Thomas’ son, Brandon, now
14, played solo on his maternal great grandfather D.V. DePasquale’s restored violin, then was invited to play with the string quartet, His sister Kensey served as a flower girl. Karen
and David have moved to Tecoman, State of Colima, Mexico to farm with their son Lance and his wife, Marcella and their daughter Carmen.
Considering that Anne works half time for the City of College Station, she became heavily involved in the 3 September Texas in World War II event at the George Bush Presidential Museum
commemorating the end of World War II. The event included veterans’ panels, which Cal helped organize, gallery talks, and a style show, including a young A&M student couple, he wearing
a General Patton uniform and the young lady wearing Rosemary’s wedding dress from 30 June 1946. Music of the ‘40s resounded, and a large display of weapons and uniforms from the local
Museum of the American GI lay in the rotunda. Anne designed the logo for the event, lapel pins, and the T-shirt, which had Anne’s logo on the front and a photo of George Bush piloting
his WW II Navy airplane on the back.
Cal and Clay participated in the annual reunion of the Seventh Armored Division held in mid-September in Arlington/Washington, DC. Cal, whose attached tank destroyer battalion served
with the division, helped lay a wreath at the Armor Memorial. Cal has again been elected president of the World War II Tank Destroyer Society,
Merry Christmas and continuous happy living
in interesting times in 2006.
