HomeMy WebLinkAboutJones, Woodrow, Jr. 1)-~7 --- (>OC)~~ Woodrow Jones, Jr., 58, professor of political science and dean emeritus in the College of Liberal Arts, passed away Tuesday morn- ing .November 22, 2005 in College Station. He waa born February 1947 in McKen2 TN. Woodrow came to Texas A&M Universi- ty in 1988. He served as associ- ate Dean in the College of Liber- al Arts in` 1989, interim Dean fror 1993-1994 a Dean from 1 2001. He was tiic ~~,~~ black dean appointed at Texas A&M University. As Dean, he placed great emphasis on infusing the lib- eral arts programs with as emphasis on diversity and internationalism. Woodrow was a co- founder of the Texas Associ- ation of Deans of Liberal Arts and Sciences (TAD- LAS), serving as president during the 1999-2000 aca- demic year. He earned his master's degree and his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Ore- gon. He also held a master of public health degree from the University of Texas School of Public health in Houston, and a B.A. degree in political science from the University of New Mexico. Woodrow was a member of many professional organiza- tions including the National Conference of Black Politi- cal Scientists, the Confer- ence of Minority Public Administrators, and the National Forum of Black Public Administrators. "He was loving, true and honest" his another Florence crated "He was a giv- person, always .dy to help oth- rs who couldn't help them- selves". He is pre- ceded in death by his brother, Ernest Jones. Woodrow is survived by his rife, Mary elf; two daugh- Kamilah and ~,a„~~,ah; one grand- son, Torrence Woodrow "Lit- tle Woody"; his parents, Woodrow Sr. and Florence Jones; two brothers and sis- ters-in-law, Leon and Mary Jones and David Jones and Sandy Stewart; his mother- in-law, Joan Wolf; sisters-in- law and brothers-in-law, Bob and Doreen Wolf, Kathie and Steve Herman, Joanne Otto- son, Susan and Omar Bassey and Kelly and Paul Wolf. A memorial service will be held at a later date on campus. In lieu of flowers memori- als may be made to the Woodrow Jones Jr. scholar- ship fund, College of Liberal Arts, 4223 TAMU, College Station, TX. 77843-4223 or American Heart Association, P.O.
