Brent Mullins, President of the Museum of the American G.!. in College Station,
received these photos from Lewis Krebs, WWII Tank Destroyer Society member who
served with the 893d Tank Destroyer Battalion. Mr. Krebs was instrumental in obtaining
the photos for the Museum from Mrs. Harry Sinclair, in honor of her ailing husband who
also served with the 893d. In this photo is Lt. Tumey W. Leonard, Texas A&M Class of
, 42, who served with Headquarters Company and who later commanded the 1 st Platoon
of Company C. Lt. Leonard was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his
heroic actions at Kommerscheidt during the battles in Germany's Huertgen Forest in
November 1944. Captain Marion C. Pugh, Texas A&M Class of '41, who commanded
Company C. wrote a recommendation for fellow officer Leonard in which he wrote,
"Leonard was the bravest man I ever saw."
