1. Call meeting to order and consider absence requests.
With a quorum present, the Historic Preservation Committee was called to order by Gerald Burgner on Tuesday, October 02, 2023, at 4 p.m. Ben White
requested an absence. Upon a motion from Lou Hodges and a second by
Jessica Williams the Historic Preservation Committee voted to approve the absence request. The motion passed unanimously. Gary Halter was
unexcused.
2. Hear visitors. None.
3. Agenda Items
3.1 Presentation, discussion, and the possible approval of minutes from the previous meeting.
Upon a motion from Sherry Frisk and a second by Lou Hodges, the Historic
Preservation Committee approved the minutes as written for September 07, 2023.
3.2
A. Cemetery
Sherry Frisk mentioned that the College Station Cemetery marker
dedication was very successful, and she praised the Parks and Recreation
Department for their support.
B. Historical Marker Program A marker application was sent in for 311 Suffolk, the committee needed
some more information, a motion was made by Lisa Mouton and a second
by Tre Watson to table the application until further information was received on whether they were applying for a subject or structure marker.
C. Exploring History Lunch Series
Tom Turbiville reported that he has 8 out of 12 months scheduled for
2024.
D. Project HOLD Report
Meaghan O’Rourke is helping with the History Wall, sorting Project Hold archives in the appropriate locations, and helping with 85th Celebration.

E. American Mile
A list of all blank bricks was handed out, the committee would like a list of
all events listed on the bricks at the next meeting.
F. America’s 250
Sherry Frisk said the donation efforts for the Never Forget Garden
Veteran’s Memorial has surpassed 150k, all the bricks have been
purchased and ordered. The group is looking to have a dedication around
May of 2024.
G. 85th Birthday of City of College Station The HPC Committee will be preparing display cards for all merchandise on
loan for the event, there will be cake, scavenger hunt, unveiling of the
History Wall and a proclamation read by the mayor.
3.3 Report by the Liaison of Parks and Recreation on matters pertaining
to the Historic Preservation Board.
None
3.4 Identification of upcoming local or area historical programs
Boonville Days is October 14th.
FamilySearch Center Open House October 21, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Lisa Mouton will have a table)
A&M Methodist Church marker dedication Nov. 01 @ 6 p.m.
4. Discussion and possible action of future agenda items.
Discuss additions to the American Mile. 5. Presentation of historical items
Items were passed around.
6. Adjourn.
Upon a motion from Tre Watson and a second by Jessica Williams, the
Historic Preservation Committee adjourned the meeting @ 5:29 p.m., the motion passed unanimously.
