RESIDENTS FROM ALL OVER the Brazos Valley are
invited to attend the dedication of the sculpture that is
the centerpiece of the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial
on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, from 5 p.m to
8 p.m. The 12-acre memorial is located to the right as
you enter the College Station Veterans Park and Athletic
Complex on Harvey Road, one-half mile East of Texas
Hwy. 6. The memorial sculpture has been two years in
the planning, fundraising and creation. The dedication
ceremony will include the official dedication of the
sculpture by Robert Eccleston, a former US Army
Captain and member of the 10th Mountain Division;
patriotic music by the Brazos Valley Symphony
Orchestra; and food and drinks donated by Outback
Steakhouse, McDonald's and Bryan Coca-Cola. A fire-
works celebration will cap off the event that is expected
to draw a host of local, state and national dignitaries.
With more than 5,000 people expected to attend this
event, shuttle bus service is being provided to and from
the park. Details of the arrangements were not available
at press time, but will be included in a special supple-
ment about the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial that will
appear in The Eagle on Sunday, November 10.
In addition to the sculpture, the site includes a plaza
area, benches, stage and pathways. The Wall of Honor,
which supports the sculpture, features the names of
more than 1,800 veterans who were submitted by
approximately 1,000 financial donors to the project. For
more information about the memorial, visit the official
website at www.veterans-memorial.org.
