An Old Man
Sim Garner, an old Negro who came from Caldwell a year ago and has
since been living in Bryan, claims that he was born in 1790, or 114
years ago in Virginia. Parties here who know him well state that his
claim is well authenticated. He remembers well the War of 1812, and
says he was 22 years old at that time. He is still strong, hearty and
active, and follows the business of well digging. We heard the remark
yesterday that if all the wells he has dug were in one continuous shaft,
they would mighty near represent the diameter of the earth.
