1. Call meeting to order and consider absence requests.
With a quorum present, the History Preservation Committee Board was called to order at 4 PM
by Chair Gerald Burgner on Monday, September 12th, 2022. Shirley Dupriest requested an
absence. The absence was approved. All were in favor, and the vote passed unanimously.
2. Hear visitors.
a. Margaret Davis introduced herself and wanted to watch the committee to learn more
about what they do.
b. Jane Cohen was present to talk about America’s 250 and the 21 steps Run/Walk.
c. Meaghan O’Rourke introduced herself as the new Historical Records Archivist for the
City of College Station. She will be providing HPC with a project hold report.
3. Agenda Items
3.1 Presentation, discussion, and the possible approval of minutes from the previous
meeting.
A correction was made to the minutes to remove Sherry Frisk as a presenter for the April
2023 historic luncheon. The minutes were approved with said changes. All were in favor, and
the vote passed unanimously.
A. Cemetery
Sherry Frisk will meet with the Parks and Recreation Board on Tuesday, Sept. 12th at 6 pm to
update the committee on unmarked graves at “Washington Chapel/ Salem.” Sherry met with
Watson Monuments to discuss potential ideas to have a monument placed in memorial of
those buried in that section. The estimated cost is around 10k to 12k, depending on the size.
The estimated time to order the granite could take 10 to 12 months.
B. Historical Marker Program
No new applications were submitted to process. There is a potential application that will be
submitted soon. Reena Gonzalez reached out to the family of Patricia Cleere – Marker# 110
but has not heard back regarding rescheduling the presentation of the marker. The next step
might be to present it at her home instead of at the council.

B. Exploring History Lunch Series
Parks provided an updated marketing flyer and a large poster of the scheduled luncheons for
September, October, November, and December. William Wright is working on a calendar of
speakers for the 2023 year with the hopes of having marketing continue providing these
advertisements.
D. McCulloch Neighborhood Interviews No Update.
F. 85th Birthday of City of College Station
Councilwoman Linda Harvell received a response regarding the 85th Birthday of the City of
College Station. The directive was that HPC could proceed as they wished. Marilyn Maddox will
assist in coordinating this event alongside HPC. Some ideas include setting up a display at City
Hall for two weeks with a potential train set up.
G. America’s 250
Sherry Frisk and Jane Cohen gave an update on the 21 steps Run/Walk that will be hosted by
the DAR. The event will take place on October 15, 2022, from 7 AM-9:30 AM at the Brazos
Valley Veterans Memorial at Veterans Park. At this moment, the DAR has received an
estimated 90k in donations to assist in the building of the Never Forget Garden Memorial.
4.2 Presentation and discussion on a report from the Parks and Recreation Liaison.
Reena Gonzalez presented the committee with the new marketing material for the Exploring
History Luncheon. Kari Williamson, Senior Services Coordinator, was present to introduce
herself to the committee.
4.3 Presentation of historical items
Louis Hodges brought a US Trades Dollar from the year 1877.
4. Adjourn and Closing
Sherry Frisk motioned to adjourn the Historic Preservation Committee Board Meeting at 5:15
PM; William Wright seconded the motion, all carried in a unanimous vote. The next HPC
meeting will be held Monday, October 3rd, 2022.
