RESOLUTION

WHEREAS the Local Park Fund and the State Park Fund were

established to enhance the acquisition of land and the
m development of parks in Texas;

WHEREAS the public demand for local and state parks far
g exceeds the available supply as determined by the Texas
Outdoor Recreation Plan

WHEREAS applications for funds to acquire and develop
local parks far exceed the available fund balance;

p WHEREAS the City of College Station has utilized
matching federal funds administered by the Texas Parks
a and Wildlife Department to develop Bee Creek Park,
a Thomas Park, Oaks Park, Central Park and Southwood

D Athletic Park;
, WHEREAS the loss of federal Land and Water Conservation
li Funds leave local governments with no other major source
d for financial assistance for acquiring and developing
parks;
F: WHEREAS parks and recreation amenities are essential to
D the quality of life in Texas cities; this quality of
t life is a determining factor in the decision of high
a technology industry to locate in the State of Texas.

BE IT RESOLVED that the College Station Parks and
Q Recreation Board finds it essential to continue parkland
acquisition and development in order to enhance tourism
q p
and industrial development, and provide the much needed

social and economic benefits;
ri AND NOW THEREFORE the College Station Parks and
°
3.Recreation Board calls upon the Texas House of
e Representatives and the Texas Senate to preserve both
the State and Local Dedicated Park Funds during its work
fi g to balance the state budget.
