Call meeting to order and consider absence requests. With a quorum present, the History Preservation Committee Board was called to order at 4 PM by Chair Gerald Burgner on Monday, April 4, 2022. No absence requests were presented. 2. Hear visitors. None present. 2. Agenda Items 3.1 Presentation, discussion, and the possible approval of minutes from the previous meeting. Upon a motion made by William Wright and a second by Louis Hodges, the Historic Preservation Committee Board voted to approve the minutes with a couple of modifications. The motion carried unanimously. A. Cemetery Sherry Frisk discussed the process of the historical marker timeline from start to finish, citing possible long wait times. She indicated she found a spelling error in the marker and that it might be a year or more until the new one is received as the foundry processes over 300 apps each year. Louis Hodges asked for suggestions to mark unmarked graves. After attending the Real Places conference in Conroe, Sherry Frisk discussed gathering ideas and concentrated on doing extensive research to reconfirm all details were correct. She noted that the City of Bryan courthouse only has a few old books and would like more specifications. Parks Operations supervisor Stephan Richardson agreed to acknowledge confirmed findings for a future sign. Sherry Frisk mentioned the Cayman Cemetery on located individuals who have done the exact process with the uncertainty of the funding timeline. Louis Hodges suggested that there should be a set plan finalized before next year’s budget. It was also noted that the possibility of visiting older African American churches could provide beneficial history. B. Historical Marker Program No new applications were submitted to process. Committee discussed scheduling Shirley Dupriest’s presentation of the marker, with Shirley indicating she was open to any date Historic Preservation Committee Board     College Station, TX Page 2 available. It was noted that Patricia Cleere has requested her presentation be done in the summer of June 2022 and would have to be set on June 9th due to prior arrangements. Sherry Frisk mentioned that she has taken over a new project for City Hall’s Texas Historical marker. With assistance from Anne Boykin and Blanche Brick, member Sherry Frisk indicated a short timeline for completion set by May 1st has had to take precedence over Cemetery. She said she would be gathering a draft soon for review. B. Exploring History Lunch Series Marilyn Randall mentioned that March’s luncheon hosted by Dave South was phenomenal. The committee member also discussed the upcoming months of the set speakers and topics through October, with committee member William Wright set for that month. William Wright discussed sponsoring April’s luncheon. D. McCullough Neighborhood Interviews No update currently. E. 250 Birthday Visitor Jane Cohen was not present. Sherry Frisk mentioned the distribution of 350 brochures and mentioned gratitude to the Parks Department. Committee discussed not having much response from many local clubs or organizations. Discussed attempts to get Tony Watson to provide a drawing, but still no set engineering company. Committee stressed relating the event to surrounding groups. Brick Campaign will take place with the Community Foundation of Brazos Valley as handling of funds. A DAR Chapter meeting Thursday night at St. Thomas Episcopal Church recognizing Sherry Frisk. Chair Gerald Burgner mentioned that one of his students is building a model to be given to Jane Cohen for presentations. 3.2 Presentation and discussion on a report from the Parks and Recreation Director. Ana Romero reported numbers were increasing for History Lunches and thanked all help received. She said over 1000 emails are sent out to remind senior citizens of monthly presentations. Ana also asked the committee, on behalf of Kelly Kelby, Parks and Recreation Assistant Director, to have requested that the committee assist with the American mile at Veterans Park. Gerald Burgner would like an updated list of what is matched currently. William Wright’s motion to approve taking over the American mile project, with a second motion set by Sherry Frisk, was in favor of approval. Ana Romero will be sending over the master list to begin work. 3.3 Presentation of historical items Louis Hodges brought a token issued by a TECS restaurant. 4. Adjourn and Closing In closing comments, committee member Thomas Smith announced his resignation from the Historical Preservation Committee, effective April 4, 2022. Sherry Frisk motioned to adjourn the Historic Preservation Committee Board Meeting at 5 PM; William Wright seconded the motion, all carried in a unanimous vote. The next HPC meeting will be held Monday, May 2, 2022.
