HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/11/2022 - Regular Minutes - Parks Board PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD AGENDA Tuesday January 11, 2022 Minutes Staff Present: Steve Wright, Director; Kelly Kelbly, Assistant Director; Andrea Lauer, Administrative Support Specialist; Rusty Warncke, Project Manager Board Present: Debe Shafer; Madeline Giroir; John Polasek; David Higdon; Ann Hays; Lisa Aldrich, Janet Wood Council Present: Elizabeth Cunha Call meeting to order and consider absence requests. With a quorum present, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was called to order @ 6:01 p.m. on Tuesday January 11th, 2022. David White requested an absence and Joel Cantrell was an unexcused absence, upon a motion made, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed, to approve the excused absence. The motion carried unanimously. Hear visitors. None present. Agenda Items 3.1 Presentation, discussion, and the possible approval of minutes from the previous meeting. Upon a motion made by Ann Hays and a second by Madeline Giroir, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed, to approve the minutes as written. The motion carried unanimously. 3.2 Presentation and discussion on report from the Parks and Recreation Director. Steve Wright updated the board on the new cemetery shop that will be constructed at the Memorial Cemetery. The building will be 5600 sq. ft. and will be a one-year project. 3.3 Presentation and discussion on parks programs or events highlighted by the board chairperson. Debe Shafer thanked everyone for serving on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and stated that she is excited for what 2022 has in store for this Board and the Parks and Recreation Department. She reminded everyone that Council will appoint the 6 new members at the January 27th meeting. 3.4 Presentation, discussion, and possible action regarding a change of use for approximately 560 linear feet of parkland in Central Park along Krenek Tap Road. Anthony Armstrong with Planning and Development gave a presentation regarding the 560 linear feet of sewer line that would be added. He stated that the project will remove 4 clusters of trees and will be adding 20 - 4in. Live Oak Trees. The project is hopefully to start before summer. Upon a motion made by David Higdon and a second by John Polasek, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed to approving the Change of Use proposal to go to Council. The motion carried unanimously. 3.5 Presentation and discussion of the “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Never Forget Garden Veterans Memorial” project. Jane Cohen and Sherry Frisk gave a presentation on this project to the Parks Board and will also present to Council at the January 27th meeting. 3.6 Presentation, discussion, and possible action regarding a recommendation for a member of the Parks and Recreation Board to serve on the City of College Station’s 2022 Bond Citizen Advisory Committee. Jennifer Prochazka stated that the 2022 Bond Citizen Advisory Committee will be made up of 14 citizens and 7 board members that are appointed by Council. The meetings will be Feb. – June with 2-3 meetings per month. Upon a motion made by Ann Hays and a second by David Higdon, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted to nominate Debe Shafer to the committee. The motion carried unanimously. 3.7 Report and discussion, concerning the current Parks Project Summary and Dedications of Less Than Five Acres from Rusty Warncke. Informational item only and no action was taken. Presentation, possible action, and discussion on future agenda items: Resurfacing tennis courts to add pickleball lines. Adjourn. Upon a motion made by Ann Hays and second by Lisa Aldrich, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the meeting at 7:20 p.m. The motion carried unanimously.
