Chair reminded members that committee policy was that 3 consecutive absences could result in removal from committee.
4. Possible action and discussion of previous minutes.
MOTION: The Committee voted unanimously to approve the minutes.
5. Chair Meeting Introduction
Chair Harvell introduced the meeting, and provided a brief outline of topics on the agenda.
6. Report from HPC staff on Historic Records Coordinator Office activities.
Jacob Morris distributed a report, and summarized developments occurring over the previous month, including Project HOLD, partnerships, and volunteers. Morris also presented a promotional
poster promoting local history created by Mike Neu.
7. Presentation, possible action and discussion of 75th Anniversary related activities.
Chair Harvell announced that donations have started to come in for the event. Sherry Mashburn distributed a summary of donations thus far: $11,600 raised, $13,100 pledged, making $24,700
total.
Chair Harvell cautioned that although promising, a substantial amount still needs to be raised in order to meet projected budget. Chair noted that some of the CSISD classes have challenged
to determine which class can raise the most $100 donations. She added that Mike Neu planned to contact building supply stores for in-kind donations. Chair then notified committee that
she intends to advocate a strong and early publicity campaign for the 75th related activities, and will coordinate with Communications department to do so.
Chair announced that the 75th activities Facebook page has approximately 240 friends. She requested ideas to expand awareness on the page. She said Gary Ives, Bill McGuire, and Anne
Boykin are also administrators on the page. Committee discussed promotion. They presented ideas for possible promotion in the Texas Aggie and Texas Monthly, Texas Coop magazines, websites
and social media. Other suggestions included the Eagle, KAMU, and using banners and posters for promotion.
Committee briefly discussed the state of the historic police robot.
Marci Rodgers reported that she had spoke with the Senior Advisory Committee, and they agreed to “help spread the word” about the 75th homecoming and exhibit. She noted that they requested
a specific event listing/itinerary/program.
8. Discussion and possible action regarding the 2014 Exploring History Lunch Series
Committee discussed possible alternate venues for the 2014 Exploring History Lunch Series. Concerns were expressed that the hallway at Aldersgate was somewhat narrow, as well as their
fee. It was reported that Lincoln Center, which has been suggested as a possible alternative location, may be under renovations next year.
Committee discussed potential sponsors for next year. Joel Mitchell and Gary Ives were not present to report if their sponsorship contacts had been productive.
9. Discussion and potential action regarding the Historic Marker nomination and award process
Committee discussed the Historic Marker Program. They explored the option of a more inexpensive material for the markers in order to reduce costs. Pat Cleere suggested contacting Henry
Mayo concerning markers, since the state markers are somewhat similar in construction. Committee discussed the option of discussing the process with Councilwoman Schultz.
