There have been several building issues and projects since that time that took place in the January/February 2020 period. o Front entrance closure: The Ringer Library's front entrance was closed from mid October 2019 until the end of February 2020 after an elderly patron accidentally ran his vehicle into a stone column. o Meeting/Program room partition: The partition in the meeting/program room has not operated as designed since reopening. Repairs have been attempted several times, but the partition is still not completely functional. Staff members are unable to schedule concurrent events in the room due to a gap in coverage that prohibits sound control and privacy. o Climate control: staff area does not cool effectively. o Locks: There have been frequent issues with interior door locks. They have periodically jammed and been repaired on a number of occasions. As of March 12, all interior door locks appear to be working. o Roof leaks: A leak occurred in a spot on the roof over the audiobooks area in late February. Repairs were completed in March. o Receipt of furniture: The last of the renovation furniture items were received in January and February of2020. o Outdoor Classroom: Plans have been proposed for an outdoor classroom at the Ringer Library. The elaborate dollhouse built in the late 1970s by W.C. Estes is a scale rnodel of a home in Calvert often referred to as The Blue House, which was destroyed by fire in 1986. Robe1ta Plummer once lived in the historic home and donated the dollhouse to the Carnegie History Center. Plurnmer's sister-in-law, Joyce Perkins, regularly redecorates the model throughout the year according to the holiday season. Visitors can view the fully furnished dollhouse for no charge during normal business hours. Mounce Library in Bryan hosted a special reading event Sunday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther l<ing Jr. Kids gathered around the room to listen to stories about being kind to neighbors and acceptihg others no matter their outward appearances. Youth librarian Jennifer Stadler helped organize the event and says they wanted the day to be even more inclusive, so they added a little twist. "We were learning about MLK in two languages, we had English and Spanish," said Stadler. "It is just a great way to say we are working to be more inclusive, and to learn from each other like MLK would want us to do." Families participated in arts and crafts, and the library provided books about diversity to help spread MLK's dream of equality. "It is important especially in children's books, to feel included and welcome. That inclusion increases literacy, to have yourself represented in the story," Stadler said. Stadler says events like this help teach younger generations the meaning behind MLK's life, and how he changed the future of our country. "Without him, we wouldn't have these diverse libraries, and we wouldn't be able to celebrate and be free," said Stadler. https:f/www.kbtx.com/contenl/news/Clara-B-Mounce-Ubrary-hosts-MLK-day-event-5671259·11.html 113 1. !· I 1 1 f, 3/13/2020 Clara B.
