to "Close Encounters of
the Third Kind," Parents'
Day activities and the
Federation of Texas A&M
Mother's Clubs head the
list of speakers, meetings
and conferences this week
at Texas A&M University.
Oaks will be speaking on
"Political Participation in
the Electoral Process" at
12:30 p.m. Thursday in 601
Rudder Tower. The speech
Is a- presentation of
Political Fordm.
"The UFO Experience —
A Scientific Inquiry" will
be the topic of a speech
given by Dr. J. Allen
Hynek at 8 p.m. Thursday
in Rudder Auditorium. He
is a professor of astronomy
at Northwestern Uni-
versity, director of the
Center for UFO Studies
and author of two books on
UFO experiences.
Also in a space vein, Dr.
Clarke Covington, deputy
chief of a system design for
the National Aeronautics
and Space Administration,
will be the featured
speaker at the Sigma Xi
banquet at 6:30 p.m.
Tuesday at the Ramada
Inn. In conjunction with his
speech, "Solar Power from
Satellites," the honorary
research society will
initiate some 60 electees

Tuesday by Dr. Clarles B.
Heiser Jr. will have as its
topic "Otigin of the
Cultivated Sunflower."
Sponsored by the Biology
Department's Laboratory
of Plant Science, the
speech will be at 4 p.m. in
107 Heldenfels Hall.
Dr. Stephen H. Spurr will
give a graduate lecture at
3:30 p.m. Thursday in 301
Rudder Tower. The
professor at the Lyndon B.
Johnson School of Public
Affairs will be speaking on
"American Forestry
Changes and Future
Research Needs."
Republ;can primary
candidate for Texas
governor, Hank Gorver,
will give a speech at 7:30
p.m. Wednesday in 601
Rudder Tower.
Aggie parents from
across the country are
expected for the annual
Parent's Day festivities
here Saturday and Sunday.
The highlight of the two-
day event will be the
Parent's Day Awards
Program at 9 a.m. Sunday
in Rudder Auditorium.
The Federation of Texas
A&M Mother's Clubs will
hold its annual meeting
Friday and Saturday.
Some 200 mothers from
across the state are ex-
pected to attend. .
