Historic Preservation Committee
Monday, September 10, 2018 – 4:00 pm

The City Council may or may not attend the Historic Preservation Committee Regular Meeting.

1. Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m.
2. Shirley Dupriest and Sherry Frisk requested an absence and it was approved.
3. The Historic Preservation Committee voted unanimously to approve the August minutes.
4. No visitors were present.
5. Tim Gregg has been contracted by the City of College Station to update the College Station
History Book. He is working with the PR department and the time frame is approximately
3 months. The plan is to have 30 stories and he hopes to be able to have a few stories ready
by the 80th Anniversary celebration.
Gerald Burgner and Lou Hodges will try to get students to volunteer at the College Station
80th Anniversary Celebration. The next 80th Anniversary Committee meeting will be
September 11.
Sherry Frisk and Shirley Dupriest were not present to update on the Cemetery Project.
The Historic Marker for 1106 Carolina St. will be presented at the Council Meeting on
September 13, 2018.
Tiffany Gonzalez reported that she has three transcriptions left and then will start working
on another project. She is now the Historical Records Archivist.
Ben Zimmer and Marilyn Randall have scheduled speakers for Exploring History Lunch
lecture through 2018. The November meeting is moved to the second week due to
Thanksgiving and no lecture for December. Ben is working on the schedule for 2019 and
will get with Katy Peterson to add it the Utility Bill insert monthly.
Tiffany is in the process of adding yearbooks to Project Hold, she also mentioned that the
hope is to have a paid intern by spring of 2019.
Gerald Bergner will get with Jay Socol to discuss possible Marketing and Social Media
options for HPC. Linda Harvell has a Facebook page called Celebrate College Station and
she has offered to share things on that page pertaining to the HPC committee.
6. David Schmitz had nothing to report.
7. Booneville days is October 13 and the following weekend is the 80th Anniversary
Celebration.
8. No future agenda items were added.
9. Lou Hodges brought historic ite ms for the committee to pass around.
10. Meeting was adjourned at 4:48p.m.
