HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/10/2017 - Regular Minutes - Historic Preservation Committee MINUTES Historic Preservation Committee Monday, July 10, 2017 – 4:00 pm Municipal Court 300 Krenek Tap Road College Station, Texas 77842. The City Council may or may not attend the Historic Preservation Committee Regular Meeting. Present: Committee: Louis Hodges (chair) Marilyn Randall Gerald Burgner Katherine Edwards Andy Smith Chantal Vessali Anat Geva Not Present: Sherry Frisk Ben Zimmer City Staff: David Schmitz Andrea Lauer Linda Harvell – Council Member 1. Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m. 2. Sherry Frisk and Ben Zimmer requested absences and they were approved. 3. The Historic Preservation Committee voted unanimously to approve the June minutes. 4. No visitors were present. 5. One Hundred copies of the original College Station History book were reprinted and are available to purchase for $15 at City Hall. PR has the draft of the Historic Home Tour booklet, they will continue to work on it and possibly have a copy for review at next month’s HPC meeting. The Historic Preservation Committee (HPC) voted to award 700 Thomas a historic marker as it was Butler’s former home. However, in order to award the marker, the person of significance (Butler) needs to have been deceased for 20 years. Butler passed away in 1998 so the HPC decided to approve the application, but will award the marker in January 2018. Brooke stated that she has been conducting oral interviews with a few City of College Station employees who have worked with the city for several years and will retire soon. The Exploring History Lunch Series will move to the Brazos Center for September and October and then they will relocate to the Lincoln Recreation Center until the Library expansion is complete. Brooke stated that she is still working on cleaning up and organizing Project Hold. She is making it where things are labeled and more user friendly. She also introduced her Oral History intern Sheena Cox. 6. David Schmitz had nothing to report besides the location change for Exploring History Lunch Lecture. 7. No local programing or activities were added to the calendar. 8. Future agenda item. The committee will work on a commendation letter for Parks and Recreation staff member Marci Rodgers, honoring her hard work with the community and senior programming. Once the letter is complete they will present it at a future council. Meeting. 9. Lou Hodges brought an item to pass around. 10. Meeting was adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
